Returning Characters

By Hawkman2000, in Star Wars: Destiny

I was thinking about the likelihood that we'll see certain characters again in the future or if a given character is one-and-done and not to be released again. As someone who is not a completist, I'm happy if I get at least some version of the major Star Wars characters in my collection at some point. Based on past SW collectible games and the FFG SWLCG, here are my thoughts on Awakenings:

Admiral Ackbar: I feel like he's mostly one and done. There's a chance that we'll see a ST version if he does more than just direct the battlefield.

Bala-Tik: Definitely one and done.

Captain Phasma: Very likely we'll see alternate versions of her as long as she's in the ST.

Count Dooku: I really think one and done. Granted WOTC released AOTC and ROTS versions of Dooku in their TCG and minis games, but I don't think there's enough differences to warrant another version.

Darth Vader: We'll definitely see alternate versions of Vader in the future. His pic shows his shoulder armor above his robes, which makes me think this is an ESB/ROTJ version.

Finn: Very likely we'll see future versions as long as he's in the ST.

FO Stormtrooper: Likely we'll see alternate versions like the Riot Trooper, but the base Stormtrooper is one and done.

General Grievous: He only appears in one movie and this version seems to sum him up nicely. One and done.

General Veers: This version is pretty complete - one and done.

Han Solo: This Smuggler/ANH version is one and done. He's really good and I don't think he'll even get an obligatory power creep revisit in the future. Still, expect alternate versions like General Solo for Red.

Hired Gun: One and done.

Jabba: Very likely one and done. There aren't really alternate versions to work with.

Jango Fett: One and done. He's also too good for a power creep revisit.

Kylo Ren: Definitely will see future versions as long as he's in the ST.

Leia Organa: This Hoth version is one and done, but we can expect ANH and ROTJ versions.

Luke Skywalker: This Knight version is one and done, but I can definitely see him appear in a starter set or a more older Knight version from the ST.

Nightsister: One and done.

Padawan: Very likely one and done. They could make alternate versions of generic Padawans, but I don't think that's likely.

Padme Amidala: I definitely feel like we'll see an AOTC for Red.

Poe Dameron: We'll definitely see alternate versions as long as he's in the ST.

Qui-Gon: One and done. Unless he comes back as a force ghost in the ST.

Rebel Trooper: Same as the FO Stormie.

Rey: Definitely will see future versions of her, probably as a Legendary next time and maybe again as a starter set in a few years.

Tusken Raider: Same as the FO Stormie.

I can see us getting a Red Luke as an X-Wing pilot.

I can see a lot of Yong and older versions of characters. They are already doing it for Vader. This is a very pleasant post and a pleasure to read. Thanks

Characters that will get 3+ versions in the next few years:

Darth Vader

Luke Skywalker

Han Solo

Princess Leia

Characters that will get at least 2 characters in the next few years:

Obi-wan Kenobi

Yoda

Padme Amidala

Rey

Kylo Ren

Chewbacca

Poe Dameron

Finn

Palpatine

I assume at some point we'll get young versions of Obi-Wan and Anakin (or maybe a hero version of Anakin that's equivalently aged to the Sith Apprentice Vader). Older versions of Luke, Leia, and Han are a given.

Dunno about other FO troopers specifically, but we'll get vanilla Stormtroopers for sure.

Thank you! We need more fun posts.

And I agree with comments here - it'll be interesting to see alternate versions of characters and makes me feel less like I have to hunt down every one.

Four characters per side per color per set means a LOT of characters. We're bound to get more than a few repeat customers, even among the mid-tier characters. Blue villains seem particularly light on canon possibilities, so I expect even Dooku will see a second version (probably based more on the Clone Wars cartoon).

i do not expect us to get second versions of non-unique characters. We may get variations (Stormtrooper vs Sandtrooper vs Snowtrooper, etc.), but probably not with the same name.

I agree with the crazy amount of characters this would ask for if we DO get four characters per side/color.

Who knows, we might get thematic expansions in the future, perhaps Star ships and individual Fighters with Hit points costs and abilities.

We might also see a dive into the Expanded Universe (Dash Rendar, Kyle Katarn, Mara Jade) <-- I hope for this

But they might surprise us and NOT release that many characters each expansion?

Regardless, I can't wait for more info.

We could also see female versions of things like the Tusten Raider

we need some more grievous action

I'm uncertain on the licensing arrangement that Fantasy Flight Games has, but...

do you think we'll ever see any Extended Universe folk?

I would LOVE to see a Mara Jade...I don't think it will happen (if not due to licensing reasons, then due to them wanting to stick with new continuity), but it would be sweet.

Most characters can pretty easily be divided into A/B/C/D list status.

A listers are the main characters - they'll always get new versions (Most of these are obvious, but I'd say you're underestimating Jabba's popularity here). While some characters will see different versions (Farmboy Luke, Pilot Luke etc), many will just be do overs because popular characters sell product.

B listers are recognizable and decently popular. They'll get new versions if the game runs long enough, particularly where there is a shallow pool to draw from (Blue is likely to go into repeats quicker than the other characters, because of making 'all' Blue characters force users).

C listers are the filler characters who may be somewhat recognizable or important story wise, but not really popular. People like Veers. I wouldn't expect them to get another version unless the game goes for a very long time (or someone at FFG rates them higher than a C lister).

D listers are the 'who?' characters that are even more filler than the C listers. They won't get new version because there's tons of random dorks they can pick from, so no real need to reuse them.

Generics are a bit different, where we'll quite possibly see do overs of the general theme, but not the specific card e.g. I'm sure there will be a variety of Troopers who are Rebels, but we may not get another Rebel Trooper. If we do, it'll likely be themed slightly differently (Rebel Guard, Rebel Commander, whatever).

I would also love to see Mara Jade and she even appears in the SWLCG, but I think Disney has now pulled back on the EU. Especially anything that might muck with the ST. Unless Mara Jade shows up in The Last Jedi...

I kinda hope there aren't too many repeats. I know there will be but hope it kept to a minimum. There's a long list of characters I wanna see before repeats.

Probably not as Disney stated the EU is not cannon. If they are not in the movies or in the Rebels cartoon we probably wont see them in this game.

I wouldn't mind seeing some of the Rebels cartoon characters here.

Young obi in trooper gear

Or even Tk-421 (han in stormtrooper gear) same with luke. Spy Cards. (SW ccg old cards)
