Bomber Miranda > Missile Miranda?

By Karhedron, in X-Wing

I have usually been kitting out my Miranda as follows

42 Miranda (29), TLT (6), Homing Missiles (5), EMs (2)

While she is pretty effective, I rarely get to fire off the 2nd homing missile and frequently find myself with ships on my tail. Not a big deal as the TLT keeps my covered but I am thinking that Bomber Miranda with Sabine would be more likely to get the ordnance off.

What are people's thoughts? Should I persevere with Homing Missiles or just jump on the Sabine Bandwagon?

It's a decent loadout, although I'd strongly consider both Long-Ranged Scanners and C-3PO on there as well to make getting full mods on those missiles a little easier and to add to Miranda's general durability. I struggle to use bombs well myself, so I very much prefer a missile loadout.

We've had some local guys using Miranda with TLT, Homing Missiles, Rec Spec, EM, and LRS to deliver some pretty hard-hitting shots.

I've liked the build you have used myself, when I'm feeling like dumping that many points into her. You're right in that getting that second homing missile off is rare, but it has happened and even the threat of it generally keeps your opponent nervous. Heck, I've considered this build with Rey so I can bank a focus token and target lock as soon as I've got range.

Bombing becomes a very set pattern of maneuvering and getting in close... which isn't where Miranda usually shines. She can do it, and do it well, but she seems best at range.

Personally for 42 points I would rather

Miranda, TLT, Homing Missiles, Rey, Guidance Chips.

1 missile that's pretty sure to get all 5 hits then you go back the long game with Miranda. Yes you lose the threat of the second Homing Missile shot. Yes you may struggle to get the PS9s with out Long range Scanners but a lot of the time it seems there is something bigger and Clumsier that you can just wipe a load of health off.

If I had 44 points for Miranda I would almost rather just add Ion/Seismics as the late game threat than the Extra Munitions. I've played quite a bit of TLT/C3PO/LRS (Paired with Rey Pilot so no option to have Rey crew) and now I'm looking at really getting my teeth into Double K + Something with Sabine bombs. Or even Dash + Fully loaded Warden

My eternal dilemma will be Rey Crew vs C3PO. rey 'Feels' better to me and it's cheaper so that helps.

Also if anyone has some links to articles on K Wings and Bombing runs? I saw one a while ago but can't find now.

As stated, Rey+Guidance helps fill out missile Miranda. Unless someone has Stealth you are almost guaranteed 2 hits. That's a good punch.

I think I'm in the minority, but I like missile Miranda more than bomb Miranda.

I typically run Miranda bomber like this:

tlt

conner net

extra munitions

bombadier

ADV slam

maybe not the best build but it gets the job done. I like being a daredevil and slamming in front my opponents ships, and then connernetting them from behind with adv slam. You can be a bit more forgiving with bombadier to. Tricky to pull off against ps9+ aces, but not impossible. also you'll be using your pilot ability for defense allot more often, and with out 3po she will die to heavy focused fire faster than normal. But it's allot of fun And comes in at the 44 point mark. You can always drop to warden for 40 points if you need the room. Also I'm always torn between extra munitions and tlt because you aren't built for true regen and the 8 points might be better spent on something other than your kamikaze style bomber.

Personally i just dont like ordnance on Miranda because it forces her to dive at people due to no Kturn to actually get the shot off. This leaves her vulnerable to a pincer attack and overwhelm her regen. They may not kill her in 1 pass but usually i see her drop to 2-3 hull really, really fast.

Bombs, both action and regular, let her fly sideways and if someone dares chase her they got a problematic bomb in the face to deal with. ANY bomb is a great chase-deterrent, in fact thats the sole reason i insist on bringing bombs if i have a bomb slot, it messes with your opponent's flying strats so much.

I'll second Miranda with Rey and Homing missles. SO good. Slow roll to begin, use asteroids to help guide their approach, and you can grab a TL the turn you have a shot, supplemented with that Rey focus. Guidance Chimps for insurance, and somebody is getting a sore bottom.

Bomber Miranda is also great, and I know others have done Magic with mixing the two, but I suggest trying it as an either or ship, and see which approach works best for you.

I'm trialling double K's for our next regional:

Miranda - Homing Missiles, Seismic Charges, Cluster Mines, Extra Munitions, Adv Slam, TLT, Sabine

Essege - Rec Spec, Adv Slam, Conner Net, Seismic charges, TLT, Extra Munitions.

Miranda hits hard in the first pass, with Essege following up with a TLT to damage or even knock out a ship early on, and then they drop bombs as they fly past. I like not needing an extra turn to set up Miranda's missiles and if I can get them on a second pass, excellent.

It is a little fragile and I'm by no means sold on it, but it seems to perform pretty well, so hopefully will get me at at least a 4-2 at the tourney...

The difference is bomb miranda tends to get a bit more expensive, usually if she's loaded optimally she gets to about 47 points so id recommend running what you can afford

Call me crazy, but I like LRS and Weapons Engineer on Missile-randa. Get a target lock on two enemies on your first turn, focus when you have shots, and fire fully modified HM volleys.

My 52 point Miranda is TLT, Homing Missiles, Extra Munitions, Rey, Advanced Slam, Ion Bomb, Connor Net. But she goes with a Sabine equipped Norra, so gets her cake and gets to eat it too.

If I was going for just one, I would go for the Missile option, which I prefer in the current meta and would go for TLT, HM, EM, Rey, and GC for 44.

Depends on who she flies with really. Can they take a beating? If so Miranda can 3-bank-3-bank slam round, hard 2 and tl (lrs), then come in again. Very hard to do much about that, but it takes you out of the fight for two rounds.

I fly her with an awing and Norra, so it works quite nicely. Fine with 2 ship lists too.

I tried both and i like ordinance better.

I think to take rey looks ok, but in general you take rey, just for 1 torpedo and dont know how often you can pull off second one. Better maybe take ion bomb/Conner net instead and have some protection if someone chases you.

Also i think i like C3PO more on Miranda and LRS look also better. With Focus and TL reroll, you should get very good odds on your hit. :)
