The Sad Truth

By JonnyCured, in Star Wars: Destiny

So when we first got the game at our LGS I was intrigued to try something different than MTG. I have been playing MTG competitively for a few years now but needed something to play when the "burn out" season hits and I need to recharge. So I decided to pick up the only 2 starters our LGS had received and give it a shot. I soon fell in love with the game having a blast with a new change of pace I found myself wanting to take it to a competitive level with the game so I then purchased a box. I started doing research into decks that perform well, have great synergy, etc and had a good amount of pieces to put towards building a tournament ready deck. Here's where the bad part comes in. I have been waiting for over a month for new product to reach my store. I cannot finish building my deck until I can get my hands on more product. More and more people who were interested in the game now are starting to abandon it because the lack of support and product that we cannot complete decks etc. I understand its incredibly popular but I am very discouraged at the lack of urgency when it comes to getting your product out to the community. Now the ones who are still holding on are left waiting and waiting to buy product so we can finish our decks. Can we get any update on whats going on behind the scenes? I am finding it hard to keep interest if this is how it may be after every release. I understand wanting to keep the collectibility of the cards but this is just asinine.

Obi-Wan: Use the Force, Luke.

Obi-Wan: Let go, Luke.

We must learn to let go. When we learn to let go, we are at peace.

I'm sure if FFG could just snap their fingers and have product appear in peoples hands they would. The reality of it is that the initial print run sold out and it will take time to manufacture / ship / distribute another print run. They already said they will be doing another print run of the Awakenings set after Spirit of Rebellion is released -- what more is it that you want?

In the mean time my suggestion would be to buy / trade singles to get to a deck that you want to compete with -- something every MTG player should already be familiar with.

Non sense! We all know that FFG don't actually want our money so they're asking the production to take it as slow as possible.

I understand that you are used to having what you want when you want it. It's not the sad truth, just Your sad truth. Sorry for your loss but in the big scheme of things, what were you hopping to get out of this post?

Probably the same thing the other 100 "where is my plastic crack!" posts wanted, the plastic crack.

I think the real question that needs answering is...how many complaining about availability posts does one forum need?

If you just need a few dice/cards to fill out your deck use the secondary market. It would be the easiest way to complete a deck with few needs even if the shelves were full of product.

I'd guess at least 4 more :D Arkham Horror is getting the same thing. Every 5th post on the subreddit is people complaining about lack of expansion supply.

Everyone has a right to be heard, and it's a shame that another potential player feels strongly enough to write on here.

Some of the above responses don't seem very polite guys. If you're frustrated that someone starts a new post on the same issue, then why not just ignore it?

Try Amazon UK. I ordered 2 boxes they say they ship to canada/usa. 77 pounds per box. Shipping in 1-2 months.

My LGS 2 weeks ago had 2 unopened boxes they were selling at a 15% mark-up. With resale value being what it is, I figured I could make up the difference on duplicates. But I decided against throwing down around $400 in one go. Kicking myself now that the budget's done for the month, because I definitely could have afforded it in hindsight! Oh well.

But around where I live, I've never seen a complete shortage. Most stores have very few boxes, and have a slight markup, but there is product for the dedicated.

I'm sure glad I proxied 62 dice and all the remaining cards I didn't have. I'm confident I'll get my box of Awakenings someday, but until then at least I can play with my buddies.

But that doesn't help the gamer who hears about this cool game and walks into their local game store hoping to find it. Telling them they're in for a dedicated hunt for product isn't the best way to advertise the game to the new player.

Maybe they shouldn't expect to walk into any store and find any game? All I said was, most stores around me have product; and I meant "dedicated" as in willing to pay 10-20% over MSRP.

maybe to produce the right amount the first time? or hell even the 2nd or third time ?

I don't expect we'll see this problem to this same degree with future expansions. I think this particular time, it was just so bad because Chinese New Year hit right when they needed to start production on another wave of this set, delaying any product for a solid month before production could even start.

This statement is not at all true. I spend countless dollars to buy enough product to ensure I have what I need to build. I have pending pre order product for this TCG still awaiting fulfillment. I am sorry I was unaware this was such a problem everywhere and I am ( as you could most likely tell ) new to the forums. Your demeaning behavior is unwanted or needed. I was just speaking to my frustration with the fact that I would love to play more of the game but are unable to do so unless i would like to drop money into the secondary market. Sorry I ruffled your feathers but its not common for me to have $360 in unfulfilled preorder product that has yet to have definitive arrival date. Just a bunch of "maybe next week"

Have you tried buying singles? Plenty of places got those

I have not, but I hear there is a great website price tracking singles if I choose to do so ?

I have bought singles online, it's the way to go.

Spirit of the Rebellion, I will buy a box of boosters, that'll get me most commons two of, most uncommon one of, and a good start on rares.

After 1 box, I'd just buy singles you really want

As an Australian I have been where you are almost every time a game came out, it is a rare bird that gets here any time before the US. Everything you are complaining about over this one game is something we have dibs on for just about every game. Our Launch Parties were delayed a week because of shipping as was our ability to buy product.

I can't offer anything more, than patience is your friend here. It'll be here when it gets here and you'll enjoy it no less for having waited. I know it is hard reading about people having fun and drawing awesome cards and doing things you want to be doing. But the whole process is out of your control, for everyone posting, there is not one person that can effect a change on things, as much as I feel you pain and would very much enjoy to be able to help you I can't. Which, for the most part makes these threads just plain out frustrating for everyone.

Patience is a Jedi's best attribute

Yeah I'm not getting the hate on buying singles. You need enough product to build most of a deck, to be fair, but once you have that, it's much cheaper to spend 10-15 bucks on the rare or legendary you need and make sure you have it than to keep buying mountains of packs at 3 bucks a pop that might not even give you what you want.

The hate is coming from that fact that the average price of rares/leg are more than the booster pack cost. Typically those numbers are closer to each other and it is simply better to buy singles than waste your money on packs. Stores buy boxes at wholesale and do all the unpacking for you and sell you the exact card you want, far cheaper than just buying a bunch of boxes and unpacking yourself.

Right now it is hard to swallow with this game due to the short supply and high cost.
