Check pilot stress step

By balindamood, in X-Wing Rules Questions

With pattern analyser, you take your action before you check pilot stress such that if you do a red maneuver, you take the action before the stress applies. What happens if the ship is stressed prior to activation, and performs a white maneuver? The stress state already exists, so the pilot should be prevented from taking an action even with PA.

Correct?

That is correct, the check pilot stress step just assignes stress from a red move, or clears stress from a green move

It is also the worst named step. It really should have been called something along the lines of "Check what colour move the ship did" Step. Red? Have a stress. Green? Clear a stress.

"Verify Maneuver Difficulty" would be adequately concise.

Or even 'amend pilot stress'.

Just wanted to add that my mind was blown recently when I learned that Pattern Analyer could be used on green maneuvers in an Advanced Sensors sort of way, i.e. perform green maneuver -> Pattern Analyzer kicks in so I use General Hux's action -> gain stress -> now it's the check pilot stress step, and it's a green maneuver, so stress is removed. So cool! It's probably old news, but I had never heard or thought of that before this week.
