Where is Soontir Fel?

He's with Whisper, so he is being very quiet.

Wouldn't that mean he was with Elmer Fudd??

Soontir's decline is part of the Mouse Anti-EU conspiracy.

There's no pilot id rather see back in play at the competitive level than Soontir. It's like the Yankees or Duke being bad, even if you hate them, something feels off. It's just wrong.

He's doing the TIE Defender training missions.

Look forward to it!

It's not super meta, but here's the bones for a fun Soontir build in Wave X:

Soontir Fel (27)
Rage (1)
Autothrusters (2)
Hull Upgrade (3)
Royal Guard TIE (0)

Major Stridan (32)
Inspiring Recruit (1)

Striden uses his Coordinate action to trigger Soontir's Rage, giving him three focus tokens (!), plus rerolls on up to three attack dice. Then Soontir activates, clears both stress tokens with a single green maneuver thanks to the Recruit, and uses his normal action to evade, boost, or barrel roll.

Is this going to turn into a "Make Soontir Great Again" thread?...

... if so, will there be free hats?

Did anyone really miss him? ****, he was the Empire Star for EIGHT WAVES.

Get your Vacancy Mr Fel

You must not have played much before Wave 6 when Autothrusters were released. Squints simply weren't around then.

He wasn't played before Autothrusters?

He was, but not to the highest level because the PWT matchup was basicaly unwinnable for him.

He's still going strong. 8 waves later he has just become stale. Using the same ship to win all the time gets old.

I would agree that the Tie Defender has become the biggest shark in the Imperial's Arsenal. The Defender is easier to fly.

I remember when the Defender came out and everyone said the white k didn't make up for the otherwise awful dial. How things change!

i'm beginning to feel that the interceptor is the best counter to the Protectorate Starfighter. Think I might fly those triple interceptors I never got around to before...

It didn't, at the price premium they put on it. That's what changed - x7 is worth WAY more than that price premium.

Squints will lose horribly to Parattani - it's tough to avoid Assaj's arc, and as soon as you fail, you're double stressed and dead.

PTL Interceptors definitely aren't an answer to Paratanni, I'd rather use VI Carnor than PTL Soontir.

Bombs and Defenders are your answer.

This.

i was going to type the same kinda thing once I read the OP. The mouse hates Aces from the EU for some reason. Maybe if he flew an ugly, boxy cartoon-ish ship (with the same dial but with a turret), he'd still be accepted.

....where's a cat when you need one?

Really? This thread has gone on for 39 posts with nobody mentioning Zuckuss being responsible for Soontir's absence?

Yes because Soontir is actually pretty good against Zuckuss. They co-existed in the metagame perfectly well until /x7 arrived.

Cause he is not. Fel could arc dodge most of zuckuss carriers and even if he would not its still max 1 dmg with Zuck - assuming he blanks out and is not on range 3.

Soontir and Corran have both made Top 4's at System Opens. They're still very good. Can still have success with them, there's just new toys out that are also very good.

Do you have a link to the lists? Which open?

The day Autothrusters came out, there was an interview with Alex Davies, where the interviewer said (quoting from memory) "Thank you! The community thanks you! The Interceptors thanks you! Their mothers thank you!"

Without Autothrusters, Squints defense is just not reliable enough to be worth the points.

The first 3 waves for Imperial were basically TIE Swarms. Waves 4 and 5 were TIE Phantoms. Wave 6 brought the Squint out of the box, and into our hearts.

Kashyyyk: Connor Richards went 10-1, losing Top 4 to Dallas Parker. Corran died once the entire tournament and that was to Dallas. He also faced Dallas in the Swiss rounds and tabled him 100-0. He was probably the best player the entire tournament, but sadly his one and only loss was in the elimination rounds.

Mustafar: Dennis Underwood: Palp ace/defender: OGP (palp, collision), marek (x7, VI, mkii engine), soontir (PTL, AT, title, Hull upgrade) [Lost to Parattani Top 4]

There were plenty of TIE Interceptors -- including Soontir Fel -- in play in early waves. (In the first big VASSAL tournament, I played Vader, Fel, Backstabber, and Dark Curse ("A Murder of Crows") and Hothie told me my list was the only one he couldn't come up with a plan for beating. (He was playing "Additional Damage" at the time.)

The use of Interceptors didn't dip drastically until Echo and Whisper forced the rise of the Boosting Large PWT at PS 9+.

Soontir/Carnor/Inquisitor took 13th at Vancouver regionals. Pretty respectable.

I've been staring at that list for days. Really would like to make it work.

Soontir (and other autothruster/evade/focus/palp aces) are the most survivable ships in the game against Zuckuss except for 0-agi ones.

Soontir with Palp and Thrusters can pull 3 evades out of all blank results and 4 out of any one symbol.
