I think all of the anti-ace stuff out there right now is pushing him to the margins compared to TIE Defenders. Defenders don't have his crazy pilot skill/maneuverability but they have more health which makes them less vulnerable to auto-damage effects.

The positive effect of this on the meta is that Defenders are usually in the mid-PS range, which then allows other mid-PS pilots to see play instead of the all or nothing approach where people push for PS9+ or fly PS 1 generics.

Why would anyone spend 33-35 points on a 3-hull ship in a meta where Asajj can turn your self-stress EPT into a liability, and Cluster Mines enhanced by Sabine can kill you outright in a single action in the Activation phase?

And that was before Hux added yet more sources of damage that can't be cancelled with Evade dice. FFG has destroyed Fel with a hammer.

Not only are defenders better now (soontir is still more evasive but only just, cant turn around quickly, and cant take a bad roll) but theres just too much crap blatantly designed to screw him over. He really doesnt gain anything from having his stress shaved for BMST or feeding an evade into Latts and is super vulnerable to stress attacks (specifically Asajj). Heck, even the Tugboat really ruins his day.

But yeah, anything that counters Defenders counters Sontir twice as hard, so he's basically dead right now to bombs and spike damage.

Did anyone really miss him? ****, he was the Empire Star for EIGHT WAVES.

Hell, he was piloted with aplomb in the top 4 of Mustafar. Gave me a hell of a run, only game that went to time.

He's still going strong. 8 waves later he has just become stale. Using the same ship to win all the time gets old.

I would agree that the Tie Defender has become the biggest shark in the Imperial's Arsenal. The Defender is easier to fly.

He can't compete with all the guaranteed damage and defenders can survive a bad roll better than he can while almost turtleing up as much (without the stress as well!)

But if you like him, fly him. That's the great part of the game - fly what you like and do so well. As long as you can keep Soontir away from the guaranteed hits you still have a reasonable shot with him.

Corran is also getting fewer and farther between. Even the good corran horn players are moving away from him. He's awesome. But two hull. And lots of stuff gets under shields now.
