Stramm as Support

By AdamGATX105, in X-Wing

So was playing around and came up with

Braylen Stramm Arc170

M9-G8 astro

Weapons engineer crew

Alliance Overhaul title

Total 31 points

Arc170 is the only rebel ship with both crew and astro, what this would do is let him target lock 2 friendly ships on turn 1 and for the rest of the match those 2 ships would get a free reroll on attack. Wondering if this seems useful for 31 points support. And if so what would be good to fly with him? I was thinking of a Ghost build maybe or flying a couple T70 close to him to overlap firing arcs.

Shara Bey is only 3 points more and her ability works better with that load-out than Braylen's does.

Friendly locks from M9-G8 work great on TLTs if you are looking for buddies.

Thane gets to redistribute locks mid-combat, thats another thing to look into. Braylen is a perfectly sane choice for keeping the price down, though.

Yeah my thought was to keep point cost down, where I'd really like to see this is on a pathfinder u-wing. Need a rebel only mod that if your ship has 2 crew slots you can swap one for an astromech

I took Thane with m9-g8 and Jun erso to regionals as a support ship. Worked wonders...

edit: imho thane is a better support ship. Free actions and all :) arcs in general are great support though.

Adam,

Took that exact loadout to a small local tournament last weekend. Had it in support of two XWings.
I loved it. That ship, with that loadout and at that price was very worth it. Tanks enough to survive. Rear Arc. Grants a predator reroll to two friendly ships per turn...it is huge.

Can't recommend it enough.

Great inspiration:

Thane Kyrell (26), Alliance Overhaul (0), MP-G8 (3), Weapons Engineer (3)

Bodhi Rook (25), Fire Control System (2), Chopper (0), Tactical Jammer (1)

Biggs Darklighter (2), R2-D6 (1), Adaptability -1 PS (0), Integrated Astromech (0)

Captain Rex (14)

All are PS4. Once Biggs gets shot down, Captain Rex would be the next obvious target which should allow Bodhi’s ability to work out once Rex scatters.

and who will do the work?

I was thinking Rex. If he flys off he can still always be in range of MP-G8 due to Bodhi's ability

Can Thane target lock again in the shooting phase if he has already target locked that turn? My thought was that he couldn't because you can't perform the same action twice....

I suppose if you had the locks on your guys turn 1, then you could roll up turn 2-3, focus, and after the enemy shoots their last unit change the target locks to them so your guys could shoot.

He can't, you are right, but the use is for the first few turns where you first lock one of you high PS ships and assist it to then switch on to one of you enemies.

There is no range restriction on M9-G8. If you've got a target locked, M9-G8 will work.

I was meaning Thane can target lock an enemy ship within range 3 of Rex or Rex himself no matter how far away Rex actually is from Thane, due to Bodhi's ability

Double post

Except once you un-TL Rex, you can't TL him again without him flying back to everyone

Stram is not a support, point cost is too high and ability only works for him. you got cheaper pilots that do a better job on the assist.

Bodhi: "When a friendly ship acquires a target lock, that ship can lock onto an enemy ship at range 1-3 of any friendly ship."

I was thinking Thane could always lock onto Rex because Rex is always at range 1of itself. But now I wonder if the words "enemy ship" in Bodhi's text prevent this.

ARC 170 - Braylen Stramm

  • M9-G8 Astromech
  • Weapons Engineer Crew
  • Alliance Overhaul

Actually, I like this idea very much. But 31 points might be slightly too much for a support ship.

The brings me to a very important question:

Which ships should be supported by Braylen?

Are the remaining 69 points even enough to add two solid fighters, of which both would receive a Predator-like ability via Braylen?

Bodhi specifically saying enemy ships prevents m9-g8 from to a friendly ship at r4+

Yup...

OK took the suggestion about Thane and worked this out, kinda crazy

Thane Kyrell

M9-G8

Weapons Engineer

Alliance Overhaul. 32 points

Corran Horn

Adaptability (increase)

Fire Control System

R2-D2. 41 points

Jess Pava

BB8

Integrated Astro. 27 points

So 100 points total, I would try to fly this list close together. Thane would target lock his wingmen to give them free reroll. Jess would get rerolls on attack and defense. Corran would get reroll on first attack free target lock and reroll on the second if he takes it. R2 for a little regent on Corran. All ships 3 attack dice 2 with rerolls plus Corran can double tap. Don't know how strong it is till I try it but on paper it looks fun!

Adam..

I ran Stramm, M9-G8, Weapons Engineer, and Alliance Overhaul, Wedge with R2 Astro, IA, and Predator, and Poe with Adapatability, R5-P9, IA, and Autothrusters.

Wedge gets two rerolls and reduces Agility by one.

Poe gets a reroll and that oh so wonderful action efficiency.

When one of the hitters dies, you can reuse the TL in a standard fashion or to make an opposing ship reroll one of their attack rolls.

Currently playing with dropping AT and R5 on Poe and going R2 Astro, IA, and Predator

XWing Predators...

Thane w/ M9-G8, Jyn Erso, Alliance overhaul
Biggs w/R4-D6 & integrated astomech

Lothal Rebel w/ Hera, Rey, FCS, Autoblaster turret and tactical jammer

Fly in formation with Biggs at the back. Get it right your opponent has to shoot biggs at R3 through the jammer giving him 4 green dice. They give you a free action from Thane when attacking so you can Jyn Erso a stack of tokens on to biggs or the Lothal or whatever the situation requires. M9-G8 can force a re-roll of a it from a ship attacking biggs or give biggs a re-roll to help him be a little more punchy. Lothal has a stack of tokens on Rey ready for combat and FCS means it should be hitting with either 4 dice primary or autoblaster with TL and focus every turn. If rey runs out; Jyn Erso some tokens onto the lothal and top her back up. Really janky looking list at first but it's surprisingly effective and really fun to play.
