Some questions about Red Viper

By BrooklynMike, in 2. AGoT Rules Discussion

Red Viper from King's Landing has: "If you are not running an Agenda, The Red Viper gains: "Response: After The Red Viper is killed, kill all characters in play.""

- Say a character has Bodyguard and someone plays the plot "Valar Morghulus", and Red Viper is in play. Does this mean that the Valar Morhghulis effect removes the bodyguard and then Red Viper's effect (triggered because Red Viper is killed) would then take out the character itself?

- Say I have put a duplicate or a bodyguard on Red Viper and he gets killed. I can remove the Bodyguard to save him, but does this count has him being killed anyway and trigger his effect?

Thanks,
Mike

Nope. Any effect saved or canceled is not executed (so kill didn't happen).

BTW what's the point to write "(cannot be saved)" on cards like Bodyguard?

i beleive there are some events and other cards that save attachments from being discarded, like Looking for Rubies , U122, a tourney of swords

What about the situation where he is killed by an effect that would kill all other characters, and other characters had duplicates or bodyguards? Does the first kill effect strip off the defense and the Viper effect actually kill them?

Yes. He is a separate kill effect, so other characters are going to need to be saved twice if the Viper is killed by a global effect (like Valar) and the controller decides to activate his effect. (Note that the Viper's kill is optional; his controller might not want to use it - especially if they don't have the second save for their characters.)
