Greetings once again, friends I've met and friends I haven't!
Rebel High Command is back with a look at the most notorious gangster in the galaxy: Jabba the Hutt!

Rebel High Command: Jabba the Hutt
The Hired Guns combo you mention is interesting but seems pretty tenuous. Additionally, I think you're missing the deplete requirement for Last Resort meaning you only get to use it once for each copy you include so not "You get to do this twice per group of Hired Guns."
I'd be interested in hearing how you value him vs splashing the Rebel Focus Bros. When do you bring Jabba, when do you bring the others, when do you combine them? Can you have too much support?
Otherwise, nice overview!

See below for how wrong I was!

You're exactly right. I for some reason thought it was exhaust, not deplete. That makes it far worse then.
The combo is more fun than seriously competitive I believe, but Bully not being limited to enemy units got me thinking.
Yep: deplete is not used much in skirmish but it means once per game, from the Rule Reference guide on deplete:
QuoteDeplete - When a card is depleted, it is flipped facedown and cannot be used for the remainder of the mission. At the end of each mission, all depleted cards are flipped faceup.
(I wrote this at the same time as the last post, I see you got it now.)
Edited by nickv2002so last resort I've used on a Nexu (bigger base = more targets) and it sounds like it should stay there rather than on Hired Guns or something else
The hired guns-jabba combo seems much funny ! Can't wait to use it against my friends.
I'd love an article about vader in the actual meta, some combo ideas, command cards, lists... and with your personal thinks about how to fix it to be a truly competitive option. He is the most iconic sw character and i didn't see him since the first errata
I think people like the "fixing uniques" thread so much and with the recent spoil of the ig88 card it is a hot theme.
Thanks for share your posts.

While I probably won't be doing an entire article on Vader himself, I may do a fun thought exercise on a lot of the early overcosted figures and how they may be fixed.
Vader's major issue is his slow speed, which basically prevents him from getting into position to actually use Brutality. At 18 points, he's also surprisingly untanky. Therefore, I would propose something along the lines of:
0 *Power of the Dark Side*
Darth Vader only.
You lose "Brutality" and gain "Auto-Evade"
After you target a character with your Force Choke ability, that character becomes Stunned and Weakened.
This puts a lot of Vader's emphasis onto his Force Choke ability, which is doubtlessly iconic. This gives it a flavourful feel (they have to regain their breath, and are unable to defend themselves properly initially) and significantly increases its power, making Vader a much more powerful ranged threat. The auto-evade may be excessive, but if you're going to be spending half your available points on one unit, they'd better be awesome. This is the kind of exciting ability that I'd like to see.
I would also like to see Vader have some sort of Force Grab ability akin to Shyla's whip so that he can bring a figure close and introduce them to his lightsaber (as he did to that Rebel Trooper at the end of Rogue One).
I like the idea of an auto evade on him to make it a lot harder for a force user/saber wielder to get off pierce and plus damage. Not sure how to accurately balance it with his double black dice and reroll. Might not have to do anything, but it may need to drop the reroll to not be too hard to hit him.
Force choke buff sounds sweet!
He's going to be a hard character to balance I think though. Can't wait to see what they end up doing.

I done this one few days ago after some feedback in a post. We tested it in skirmish and i can say its funny and not OP. The right way is in this direction but i can feel that need something more "special" to be Vader.
If you finally work in some "fixing old uniques" posts, i can do the "fake cards" like this one to show in your web, only say to me ![]()

That looks awesome! I'll be sure to pop you a message if I do decide to do that!
With great images like that, it seems more and more tempting to dabble. I do enjoy the design side of things, though I'm not sure how interested people would be. We'll see how we go! ![]()
The Jabba Bully action not being limited to hostiles is super interesting! I doubt it's any good but I have to try splashing Leia in scum. Jabba can bully someone to run through your command deck and she can shuffle back the high powered cards.
