Next purchase advice please!

By Tiberius the Killer, in Star Wars: Armada

Hello,

I posted this earlier in the "fleet builds" section, but I think it probably blongs here.

Still very much a beginner at Armada, only having played the tutorial and some very low key games. I've found some new friends who play, and will get to play my first 400 point game with them soon. Certainly they will be very friendly games, but I would like to at least be a little competitive. So I'm trying to decide what my next purchase should be. Here is what I own so far:

Core Set, ISD, MC80, Raider, GR-75, Rebel Squadrons (I and II), Imperial Squadrons (I and II), and Rogues and Villians.

I am thinking it is between the AFM II, Phoenix Home, and the MC30, but maybe it would be another GR-75 or something else. I'm looking for fun and interesting, more than super competitive, and I would like to focus on squadron heavy support. Greymage gave me some good advice, and recommended the phoenix home, and then I get a Gladiator. All suggestions are appreciated. Thanks!

The rebel assault frigate is good for squadron support as is phoenix home. The flotillas are good and can be doubled up on. Might want to look into the Arquitens as well. Might want to keep an eye out for sales. Some of the smaller ships can be had on line for around $10.

2 Imperial Light Cruisers. Or more.

AF is a better ship compared to the Pelta in my opinion. A much tougher and more armed ship. Plus Gallant Haven is awesome.

All of your options are solid, but based on what you have, I think an assault frigate works better with what you already have. You could put together an interesting Sato list with the Phoenix Home, but I think you will get bette returns from pairing an assault frigate with Ackbar, some Transports and a CR-90.

buy what looks good to you. Don't ever listen to anyone saying you need x many of x ship or squadron. The best part about armada is that almost everything is relevant.

as far as squadron support goes though the home one pack, af2, and the pelta all do well.

Assault Frigate is pretty awesome. A little forgotten nowadays cuz of so many other ships, but fun. =) Goes well with MC80 ackbar.

The mc30 is a strong ship just by sheer numbers.

All rebels only? I'd ahve to say youre really missing a Gladiator. One is enough if you haven't caught the must buy everything bug.

If you are just getting started and play friendly games with people who have been into Armada for some time (and propably have more stuff), just check if you can use some of their ships for the first games. That way you can test some things before investing.

Apart from that, I think all ships available can easily contribute to a fun fleet, so get whatever you like and you will surely have a great time.

Thank you all very much for the advice. I am focusing on Rebels right now, but I do plan on getting a gladiator before too long. I have decided to go with the AFM II. Especially after playing around with the fleet builder, I think that's what I want. Gallant haven looks pretty sweet! And it seems to make sense with Ackbar and a MC80 as well.

Hopefully if I start playing a lot with these guys, in a few months I will have one of all your suggestions.

One of all suggestions is not nearly enough! You neeeeeeed MOOOAAAAAAR! :)

For me a must have is mk2, well rounded and polyvalent ship, probably you end buying 2 of them.

Yep, finally made an account and started posting to prove who is the tallest giraffe around!

My rule of thumb is two of everything. But I am addicted. Haha I get three of some small ships. But one of what I think are unique (pelta and home one. But I may change my thoughts on that if I find that I would run two in a build.

But anyway. Good choice on AF MKII. That will compliment your current ships. I love the MC30. it's fast, it's armed to flank and it's possible my favorite ship. Its not a squadron support though. So it may not fit your play style.
