Elven High Magic

By Scelous, in Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay

I've seen some posters saying that one of the many things WFRP 3E is lacking is Elven High Magic. Correct me if I'm wrong, but Elven High Magic was never intended for player use, right? I'm not very familiar with past editions, but neither 1st nor 2nd let players have access to Elven High Magic, is this not true? Page 37 of Realms of Sorcery states, "Elf Wizards adventuring in the Old World work towards mastering the fundamentals of magic and those who do return to Utlhuan to be ushered into the teachings of True Magic, spending decades, if not centuries in its study and meditation."

If so, I don't see why people are clamoring for High Magic, especially when it was never intended for players, when the basics (such as horses) are missing from the game.

You must be looking at the v2 realm of sorcery. High Magic exist in v1, it was introduced in the realm of sorcery supplement.

I agree with the original poster and I really dont understand why people are crying foul about High Magic not being present. Yes, high magic WAS in v1, however, and I quote

"It is not recommended that High Elf mages should be made available as player characters in a WFRP campaign" - RoS (version 1) p.94

And even in v1, High Magic was reserved for level 5 mages, prior to those levels HIgh Mages used battle magic like human wizards. The background effectivly being that they trained in 'human' magic until the High Mages deemed they could train in High Magic, whereby they went to Ulthuan and studied for a few decades...

I think the same background was in v2 as well (with Elves using college magic at lower levels).

If there should be any Elf magic, Wood Elf tree singing is more appropriate...
