Music themes for Arkham Horror

By jsalyers, in Arkham Horror: The Card Game

I thought we might use this thread to collect atmospheric music to play during the game.

I personally like something we can play quietly in the background, not distracting, but good for maintaining the game's mood.

Here is a start:

  • Atras da Porta - Abraham Laboriel
  • Moving Out - Sonny Rollins with Thelonious Monk and Kenny Dorham
  • Central Park West - John Coltrane
  • But Not for Me - Ella Fitzgerald and Ellis Larkin
  • Funeral March of a Marionette – Charles Gounod
  • Marche Slave (Slavonic March) - Tchaikovsky
  • O'Fortuna - Carl Orff(?)
  • Danse Macabre - Charles Dutoit

What do you like listening to while playing Arkham?

Why a ? after Carl Orff? He composed the music for the Carmina Burana, of which "O Fortuna" (NB no apostrophe! It's not an Irish fellow) is a part.

1920s pop songs in general. Al Jolson, Gene Austin, Glenn Miller. Some good old bayou jazz for Rougarou.

Danse Macabre is by Camille Saint-Saens no?

Sure is. Dutoit was (is?) a conductor.

Not my intention to miss-attribute the music, I'm a listener not a musician.

I wasn't sure about the O Fortuna spelling thus the (?) should have included SP I guess...?

I highly recommend Nick Cave's Murder Ballads album.

The darker 16 Horsepower and Woven Hand tracks work well too I think .

I enjoy having background sounds/effects when I play. A good source for this (as well as for suitable ambient music) is http://tabletopaudio.com/

ANy one checked out Cryo Chamber on Youtube ? more atmospheric than the type of thing you would have heard on the radio (wireless even) at the time but suitably creepy :D
