I'm new to running this game and most of my experience is with D&D. Until now all I've run for them is the Edge of the Empires adventure Escape from Mos Shuuta. This post is really a two parter.
1) I'm trying to create an encounter that, while it still has some combat skills in it, is more like an environmental challenge. They will need to get through a field of airborne mines with their ship. The mines in the zone are ancient and not as densely packed as they once were.
Right now I'm thinking that they can attempt to just do some fancy flying through them, with a few daunting pilot checks. To make things easier two crew members can take to the turrets and shoot down mines in their path, each successfully destroyed mine reducing the difficult dice of the piloting check by one. Another crew member can attempt to slice nearby mines reducing the difficulty dice by an additional one. Mechanically, does this sound like a proper Star Wars FFG approach? Any suggestions?
2) The second part here, is that so far when it comes to needing dice outside of combat, so far it has always been computers or mechanics, both of which fall under the purvey of one character. So all the other characters are just kind of sitting there with nothing to do. What are some other common skills that can be worked into environmental encounters?
