50 pts to build a Large Ship, 3 vs 3

By Hexdot, in X-Wing

Tomorrow prior to our weekly Epic game we will play a little exercise. 3 players vs 3 players. You choose a Large Ship and equip up to 50 pts. Any faction. Then random selection to form 2 equips.

My choice...

VCX 100 Kanan Jarrus (38)

RecSpec(3)

Reinforced Deflectors (3)

TLT (6)

TOTAL 50 pts.

I want to fly Kanan because I never have choose him before. So 12 pts left to buy upgrades. Suggestions?

I fear at least we will see 2 UPS...

Not sure this is the best combo. Kanan's ability to reduce incoming fire means it is less likely that you will get the magic 3+ damage to trigger the Reinforced Deflectors.

I fear R1 5 dice attacks...

Drop the Reinforced Defectors and buy a Shuttle. Have a full second attack...unless this is either too cheesy or banned by the 'one large ship rule'. You could declare that the shuttle can't undock...

lothal rebel (35) and Zeb (18) cost 53...

Not unreasonable given Agility zero. However it still conflicts somewhat with Kanan's ability and also passes up the handy Fire Control System.

If you want RDs, it might be better to take a different pilot for your Ghost. Hera is one option that springs to mind:

50 Hera (40), RDs (3), Nien Numb (1), Navigator (3), Countermeasures (3)

Now you have a ship that can change its dial to virtually anything you like after most opponents have moved. That will help maximise the chances of you bringing your big primaries to bear rather than your opponent.

IG88-B + Expertise + Fire-Control System + “Mangler” Cannon + Tractor beam + Inertial Dampeners + IG-2000 + Autothrusters (50)

Dengar + Predator + R4 Agromech + Punishing One (50)

Asajj Ventress + Expertise + Latts Razzi + Glitterstim + Inertial Dampeners + Engine Upgrade (50)

Bossk + Crack Shot + “Mangler” Cannon + Dengar + Gunner + Zuckuss + Burnout Slam (50)

Lothal Rebel + Sensor Jammer + Twin Laser Turret + Jan Ors + Recon Specialist (50)

Chewbacca + Predator + Recon Specialist + Jan Ors (50)

Wild Space Fringer + Heavy Laser Cannon + Recon Specialist + Outrider + Smuggling Compartment + EMP Device + Counter-Measures (50)

Patrol Leader + General Hux + Darth Vader + Dauntless (50)

Interesting. Reinforced Deflectors out. FCS in. As said before I want to fly Kanan first time. Simple, short and crazy game to laught a little before a long and quite inmersing Epic. It was a bad idea Kanan + RD. But I am sure we will see 2 or even 3 UPS on the table. Brand new ships eager to see action...

In a "only big ships" environment, the PWT will surely be predominant, so ships with fixed arc and without excellent dials and/or repositioning would have a hard time.
The Tooth have a diferent arc, the Uwing can turn fast thanks to his title, but lambdas and Upsilons...

The idea of this one is you'll use your primary gun most of the time, K-turn when you need to but with a saved up focus token on Rey for offense or defense. Arc dodgers aren't going to want to be in range one.

Kanan Jarrus + Fire-Control System + Autoblaster Turret + Recon Specialist + Rey (47)

I would fly old chewie with engine and c3po and vi. This should counter upsilons due to arc dodging and pwt and countering kylo rens ability.

YTs are mostly too expensive for this, aside for maybe Predator/PTL Chewie. I'm betting on Scum toilets and saucers dominating, with Rebel Captive/Vader Decis in tow.

If I was to build a 50 point Kanan, this is what I would do:

Kanan w/ FCS, TLT, Rey, Jyn

The alternatives that I would consider would be

1) swapping Rey and Jyn for Recon and a 1pt crew (Hera comes to mind as a good value, but conflicts with Kanan's ability... IR seems like it could be useful depending on what else people bring, but IA is probably what I would end up with). This might actually be the most useful build. I would consider hard about the Rey vs. Recon debate in this limited environment. And without Engine to provide a third action choice (Evade being the second), Recon might win out over Rey+Jyn, especially late game.

2) Swapping TLT for ABT and equipping Engine. You might want to swap Jyn for IA again, but at a 50pt big ship limit, you have a decent chance at moving last anyways.

3) Swapping TLT for ABT, Dropping Jyn, and equipping PT and EM. I think this is the weakest of all of them, but it gives you a R1 ABT, and forward and rear arcs for R2-3.

I don't hate this one here:

Tel Trevura (30)
Dengar (3)
Hull Upgrade (3)
Punishing One (12)

Total: 48

12HP with a full turret, PS7, built in barrel roll, and 2 agility. Seems respectable across the board.

You have 2 points left over for your EPT and remaining slots. I think I'd lean towards Glitterstim and Trickshot, but you could also do VI and Burnout Slam or Rigged Cargo...you have some flex room.

I like it. Isn't it 11HP tho? Problem is that Dengar with Punishing one is 45 points. I would think I would trade his ability and PS 9 for the extra health.

This is a cool format and I like the the trade-offs forced by the 50 point cap. My choice would probably be:

IG-88C (36)
Veteran Instincts (1)
Advanced Sensors (3)
Heavy Laser Cannon (7)
Autothrusters (2)
choice of: Inertial Dampeners / Burnout Slam / Initiative Bid (1)

Thought process: in this environment, Autothrusters is going to get a lot of mileage. Gunner effects are difficult to squeeze in at this price point without serious trade-offs, so you're going to be pretty resilient. Normally IG-88B is the right choice, but since most of your targets will be AGI 2 and below, B's ability probably wont trigger that often, so C makes a lot of sense to further boost your durability. VI is going to put you close to the top PS and especially helps you out against other Aggressors, which will be tricky to hit without B's ability, so you're relying on your reactive respositioning ability of Adv Sensors + Boost at PS 8 to help you win that matchup.

It's 12.

The ship has 10HP built in, with the Hull Upgrade, then Tel uses his ability to come back with 4 damage cards, so he has 2 hull remaining.

Dang! Outmathed again!

Thanks people. I will told you the ships involved and the outcome.

Assajj + PTL + Title + Engine Upgrade + Latts Razzi

RAC with Engine Upgrade.

After random D6 rolling to asign sides... Ships plus main upgrades.

SIDE A

Kanan VCX 100 (tlt, FCS)

Han Solo (C3PO, Evade title)

UPS Kylo (Targeting Synchronicer, EU, Palpatine)

SIDE B

UPS Stridan (Targeting Synchronicer, EU, Sensor Jammer, Palpatine)

Dengar (Title, R5P8)

Lancer Ketsu (RecSpec, Predator, Glitterstim, Stealth Device)

So...two Emperors on the table. No problem. Simply a crazy idea to warm dices prior to lunch and playing Epic.

Very little co op between players. Side A won by little...

Stridan UPS was the first to die. His Sensor Jammer was unusable because we rolled great against him

Then Solo went down in flames. Sheer bad luck receiving Crit Hits

Then Dengar and my VCX blew up. I was an idiot firing to his nose confident in Kanan's ability. Bad choice.

So Kylo vs Lancer. Both slightly damaged. Simply the Lancer flew bad. Bad Misscalculation landing over asteroids...twice. If you are a "give me Rebel small ships" player and you are quite new to flying Large base... Bad augury.

Very fast play in less than 60 minutes. Sheer fun and very casual. Probably the deadliest ship on play...Dengar ( not a surprise). Kylo is... very...very good (not a surprise)
