Rebel Synergy

By Teloch, in X-Wing

So I played two games against a mate of mine this week, he played the same list twice. First game my 3 Interceptors just got the win (Carnor, Fel and Turr all at PS9 with a Shield and AT, Fel had PTL. 100pts) my second game was pretty dismal, I flew Hobbie Wedge and a Red sqn. What got me though was my mates list.

Shara with overhaul and weapons engineer, Norra with PTL and overhaul and Esege with Recon Specialist. There was more in his squad but thats the gist of it and **** it was sucky to fly against.

Norra would take 1 of Shara's target locks to add the focus, overhaul turns that to a crit, and would then spend her own TL if needed on the dice to get more hits/focus and use one of Esege's focus for the effect. It sucked and chewed through me.

Does the Empire have any lists that syngerise like this?

Shuttles (Lambda, Upsilon and Tie) and Officers (Operation, Fleet, Systems) are your answers here.

That is if we talk strictly about such action efficient synergies.

Yes, I think all 3 factions can build highly synergistic lists like this although some are better than others. Dengaroo and Parattanni spring to mind for Scum. The Empire is a bit more flexible and less prescriptive. Vessery plus anyone who can feed him Target Locks is a simple staple of many lists given the strength of /x7 Defenders. Palpatine + Aces are a classic.

It depends to some extent on what you are trying to accomplish.

Empire have tended more towards individually good ships - there are a lot of Imperial aces, ranging from the Inquisitor to Whisper, that can hold their own in a fight very effectively. This is generally regarded as an advantage, as they don't lose out nearly as much when a lynchpin ship is destroyed, or moves out of support range.

That said, there are still a fair number of support options open to Imperial squadron commanders. Crew are always an option on a Lambda or TIE shuttle, including the Systems Office and Fleet Officer. In addition there are still a few Imperial synergy ships - Howlrunner being the defining example.

And of course, the Empire also has access to Emperor Palpatine. Manaroo is now probably regarded as equally effective, but there's no getting away from the fact that Palp is THE support option against which all other support options are measured.

So, let's do some "Imperial Syn©".

TIE/fo Fighter: "Omega Ace" (20) + Swarm Leader (3)

TIE Avanced Prototype: Sienar Test Pilot (16) + Proton Rockets (3) + Autothrusters (2) + TIE/v1 (1)

TIE Bomber: Scimitar Squadron Pilot (16) + TIE Shuttle (0) + Systems officer (2) + Fleet Officer (3)

TIE Defender: Colonel Vessery (35) + Veteran Instincts (1) + TIE/x7 (-2)

-- TOTAL ------- 100/100p. --

The commanding shuttle (CS) does a green and gives two focus and a target lock (TL).

The TAP do a TL, getting an evade from her title, and a focus from the CS. Three tokens without stress.

Vessery do a >2 speed move, get the x7 evade, do a focus and get another from CS, and a free TL if he shoot to anyone with a TL of his wingmans (and with PS 8 he shoot before any of his pals spend theirs TL).

And Omega Ace do a Focus, get a TL from CS, drain the free evades of Vessery and TAP and... now he does 4 to 5 automatic critics.

Maybe not as straightforward as a Howlrunner, Jonus, Palp, a little more convoluted than the usual scum mindlink. But you get 9 tokens with only 1 stress. And shoots with TL and focus from Vessery, 5 dice procket, and 4-5 crits from OmegaAce.

Not a full competitive build, but a funny one. And very synergyc indeed, very Synfull.

You can easily measure the usefulness of Rebel synergies by looking at the dominant picks in top tier lists.

You know, Miranda, Corran, Poe, Falcons... Ships that are totally self-sufficient and safe from having the list fall apart like overpriced Rube Goldberg houses of cards.

Notable exception being Sabine Crew, but that's because she's basically Rebel Palpatine, with no range/action dependency.

Except it only works offensively, and only if you hit with a bomb, and it's limited to the number of rounds you can drop a bomb . . .

Actually, yeah, that's exactly what it is: the Rebel Palpatine, except Rebels can't have nice things! :P (Point being that she's good, but not as good as Palp, even for the cost).

This looks like a really fun list! Great call! Thanks for sharing.

As I said in another post while the faction design concepts might have intended for the Rebels to by synergistic, Imperials have more damage, and Scum be disruptive in the meta has shifted a different route.

Scum are now the synergistic with atanni and Manaroo

Empire is the disruptive with Omega Leader and Kylo Ren

Rebels have bonus damage with K-wings.
