Bossk Zertik and other imperial AA squads

By Blail Blerg, in Star Wars: Armada

I saw this in the next two regional winners:

Bossk Zertik Strom Saber Squadron Valen Rudor

Esp Zertik, is he really good? Is Bossk + Zertik really worth its points well?

I'm pointing out for the public, Valen is really good AA. PSA.

How have you guys liked Saber?

I probably woulda used Ciena, but they're different roles here.

Also, has anyone else found it weird that Imps have literally only 1 squad with Snipe? Compared to both generic and unique Ewing.

Probably don't want a million snipe squadrons escorting a rhymerball and demolishing everything.

Well the obvious combo is zetrik does the 1 damage Boosk needs to get his auto accuracy (bossk... I think this is a good time for you to get angry).

Zertik is still a great value double brace ace as well, which Imps don't have many of. But his damage is pretty random.

But a couple weeks ago I was running Shara and Tycho against Bossk/Zetrik. I got very lucky in taking zetrik down before he could auto damage bosssk. After that I didn't shoot at bossk for the rest of the game!!

Zertik is very nice in being the cheapest double-brace escort in the game. I think his Bossk synergy is just gravy.

Saber is, similarly, the cheapest Snipe in the game, by a large margin, and it can be enhanced by swarm and Howlrunner, and it has the largest native threat range (5+2) in the game.

Also, you have IG-88 and Mauler and Soontir, all of whom can push damage through behind escort.

So, no, I don't think it's weird.

Zertik Bossk is really solid.

Double brace from Zertik for only a 3 points more than a standard Advanced combined with the guarantee to unleash Bossk.

are they actually worth their cost though? 15 + 23? For instance I could get 2 Tie adv and 2 Tie Bombers for that similar cost. I guess its not that bad.

Where is Jendon? He loves those high-output squadrons. And suddenly Empire has two Snipe squads ?

I find it weirder that they have a squadron with snipe considering Rebels dont have cloak.

Oh. That guy. I haven't played with him either. Is he really worth it? Lambda stats are kinda crud. Unlike VCXs.

also still not true: Saber has NO DEFENSES if attacked.

Unless you really need strategic, Jendon is pretty great with squads like Saber, Vader, Maarek, Boba and Bossk.

Jendon is a semi clone of any hero and when it's above 20 points it's pretty great value. How about that IG88/Stele/Bossk/Bobba/Morna...yeahhh it's good. Just look at Jendon/Stele at 41 points. That's 4 bomber damage most of the time. That's worth it. Jendon trumps Hera imho, better defense and way more utility.

Zertik Storm was the no1 squadron I was waiting to see spoiled. The reason is that Vader, contrary to what most people say, was and is fantastic precisely due to escort and brace/brace. You just had to position/time Vader correctly. Now Zertrik Storm arrives. Zertik Storm could have 1 red dice for AS/battery and with the brace/brace that would still be good enough. Now Imps have crazy good escorts in the form Vader, Storm, Tempest. Vader is a bomber without the crit, Tempest is a bomber, Storm is a black dice...these lists make themsevles.

Saber is cool, currently using it more and more. Put it on an debris/obstruction, adding in flight controllers, roll 4, get swarm, it's great. It's really pesky as supporting fighter or bait to draw them in.

Lambdas are crud...k! If you say so.

My MA regional build used Jendon/Boba/Bossk/Vader/Zertik/Tie Adv (I decided against Tempest as I was worried about Kallus). Worked like a clock.

Went like clockwork

Worked like a charm

On the internetz, grammar is optional.

I took Bossk/Rudor in the Corellian Campaign last night (along with 3 Generic TIEs because I'm a stingy bastard).

Bossk Turn-1'd an A-Wing who moved too far forward, soaked the Counter for a Point, and then Raged on.

He then took out Tycho between Turns 2 and 3.

Turn four he decided to vent on a HWK....

Squadron Phase of Turn 5, he realised he was on 3 hull, and although there was a Pile of Z-95s within spitting distance, decided to mosey back to the Space Taxi Rank with his rage expended, so he could keep his Veterancy without Risk.

Rudor did much the same with the Pair of TIEs escorting him, until the Z-95s did their lucky rolling thing ( Double-Double-Blank = BoomTie)...

Striaght up Blacks just murder Generics. Bossk gets angry and Straight up Murders anyone he wants at that point...

That's why he's the Boss(k).

I think that a better play would be to skip counterattack on Bossk in this case.

Indeed. However, my nearby Victory I SD was packing Ruthless Strategists, just in case.

Yeah but its unique. They only have 1 squadron period that can snipe and its on a fragile platform. Ive faced that thing a few times and i usually outsnipe it with my four ewings before it does anything.

And i dont want cloak. Unless its paired with Rogue or denies beyond range1 attacks (which it should have done that to begin with) its a useless ability.

I love it when Gink just throws out a few clues for us to try and figure out.

Very Yoda.

...

did everyone miss it?

Pt106: " Worked like a clock."

Which, is of course, a correct simile, but it is not as the "normal" affirmations go.

Ginkapo then educated us on the normal affirmations:

"Went like Clockwork, or Worked Like a Charm."

I'd call it a case of Mixed Metaphors.

But they're Similes. Not Metaphors.

Ah...I see it now.

Here I was, assigning a MUCH deeper meaning to Gink's post.

Nope. Just being a smart@$$

Yea, Ginkapo. Put that in your hat and smoke it!

Like a Bossk

Ok so back on topic...

Zertik is pretty awesome. As others have mentioned, his two braces for 15 points are the Bossk. He helps so many Imp squad builds.

Now...I have to go try that Jendon/Saber Squad combo...
