Question on "While attacking" effects.

By Darth Sanguis, in Star Wars: Armada Rules Questions

Okay, so I've seen these cards played both ways, and I'm sure this has already been answered since these cards have been around a while, but I figure it can't hurt to ask.

When cards like Vader, Ordinance Experts, Leading shots, and Turbolaser Reroute Circuits are used, can they only be used once per attack?

For instance, TRCs: "While attacking you may spend 1 evade defense token to change 1 red die to a face with a crit or double hit icons."

My pool is 4 reds, I roll my attack, I get 1 hit and 3 blanks, so at the modify dice step I activate the TRC effect by spending 1 evade to change 1 of my reds to face with a double hit. Since I am still under the conditions of "while attacking" and the previous TRC effect has ended, am I able then to activate the TRC effect again and spend 1 evade to change 1 red dice to a double hit? Presuming my ship has more than one evade could I end up continuing this process until all 4 reds are double hits?

I've seen it played both ways and never contested it, though I've always treated them as one-off effects it does seem ambiguous to me.

Only once per attack, the RRG is very explicit about this:

• A “while” effect can be resolved during the specified event and cannot occur again during that instance of the event.

i.e. a "while attacking" effect cannot occur again during that attack.

If it were not so, ordnance experts might as well say "set all black dice in your attack pool to hit/crit."

Ah, thank you very much. I really should re-read that book cover to cover. It makes sense now how I missed it. The last time I read through it completely was wave one. I didn't use anything that had a "while attacking" effect at the time so I guess I just didn't retain it at all.

Thanks guys.

What about Leading Shots when attacking squadrons? If you have a ship with 2 blue AS die and both count as a miss, can you spend a die to reroll the other for each squadron you attack, if you completely blow the roll?

Cause it says "while attacking". The Agent Kallus card says that and you can add a die anytime you're attacking a unique squadron. So if he can come into effect multiple times When firing at a group of squadrons, then surely Leading Shots should come into play with each individual squadron AS roll?

Yes, individual squadron attacks count as separate attacks for purposes of upgrade card effects. Which means yes, you add Kallus for each unique, and you can LS each shot.

That is what they do though.... ;)

(Note: I am making a joke about my vassal dice and not a comment on the rules, ordnance experts can only reroll dice once)
