Reducing nerf threads

By Jemmers, in X-Wing

Can we please cut back on the number of nerf/whining threads? Growing a player base is not great when half of the board is taken up by people crying nerf and others arguing with them.

Maybe we can try to relegate balance discussions to a particular day maybe? How about we collectively cry on Wednesdays and the other days we discuss actually interesting topics?

Mobile spelling sucks

I just skip the threads if I find them boring, do you find that difficult to do?

Are you suggesting we nerf need threads? ?

If you actually read most of the current ones, they are making fun of all the nerf threads....just saying

Did someone say NERF?

I have an insatiable need to troll people that are whiny on the internet.

While there are plenty of "the sky is falling!" threads, there are some that generate legitimate conversations about the subject matter. When there is legitimate concern about something in the game, it should be addressed and discussed, to either come to a consensus or to show why the concern is unfounded. Unfortunately, the difference between a "whiner" and a concerned player are not readily apparent and only through discourse can one truly be classified.

While I too would like whiners to cut back, I fear that those with legitimate concerns would be done a disservice, so I do feel it is best to just endure.

Can't agree more with OP. Game in my opinion is in excellent state, but when you enter the Internet it's only darkness, misery, doom&gloom, Defenders are op, Parattanni is killing things, nerf this, nerf that....

I find it really unpleasant :(

I suggest to just create subform "Crybabies and wannabe designers corner" and be done with it.

There's a big difference between "here are some things that could improve the game" and "OMG DOOOM". Clearly people like talking about this kind of thing. It's pretty easy to skip the threads that have 'nerf' in the title if you're not interested.

I do like seeing people complain about people complaining though.

We need a thread complaining about people complaining about people complaining.

Double post.

Actually a "Game Feedback/ Suggested Changes" section of the forums would be welcome.

Let's all just agree that opinions aren't allowed on the internet.

But I read it on the internetz so it has to be true!

When you log on and 2 of the top 3 threads are calling for a nerf to the nerfs threads, I find myself asking if we need a nerf to the nerf the nerfs thread.......

I'm not so sure there is a big difference between "here are some things that could improved the game" and your "OMG D)OOM" topics. That's because your "improvement" may run completely counter to other people's thoughts and is saying to them "THIS NEEDS TO CHANGE BECAUSE IT'S TOO POWERFUL (or whatever)" which then makes it that "OMG DOOOM" topic.

You think things could be done regarding things like turrets, stress stacks, or overlapping but your "things" ARE nerfs to those things which have probably been around since wave 2 if not wave 1.

There's also a big danger of skipping those "nerf threads" and that is that they can give the appearance that whatever they're crying about nerfing really needs to be "fixed" when you don't get the alternative viewpoints in the same discussion. The squeaky wheel gets the grease when no one points out there are other things that could use the grease more or how it really doesn't fix anything.

My argument is that it's not hard to distinguish between constructive criticism and doom-laden panic-mongering, and most comments (not all, sure) have been considered and well-intentioned criticism to improve the game. Panic-mongering isn't helpful but I don't see a lot of that, certainly not the majority of posts.

If your argument is that any criticism which runs counter to people's opinions is problematic then I don't know what to tell you. Some people will probably assume that any discussion of nerfs that they don't agree with is problematic, and assume bad things about the posters, and maybe even write threads about how nerf discussions need to be stopped. It's unfortunate but what are you going to do? I'm going to write about the things that interest me, out of my enthusiasm for the game, and that definitely includes things that can be improved, because things can always be improved.

My suggestions were actually around Zuckuss, the X7 title and effects that don't have range limitations, but regardless, the fact that something has been in the game for a long time doesn't mean that it can't become a problem due to the constant stream of new cards, pilots and ships, which necessarily impacts the balance of previously released cards, pilots and ships.

If you believe that people are wrong, then you can always post in those threads with your opinion. I'm sure a lot of people would enjoy seeing it.

If you don't want to get into it, that's fine too. Just skip those threads.

I think there's much less of a direct line between forum griping and FFG issuing errata and fixes than you're suggesting here, but in any event, this argument supports suppression of really any criticism of X-Wing, which I think would be less healthy for the game than a vibrant community discussing both nerfs and boosts and running the risk that maybe the design team will get the wrong impression.

I WANT THIS

Case in point...they usually just become a stupi thread of insanity

I think that a lot of the "nerf this, buff that" is simply a response to a favorite build not doing well or not as well as expected. The original X-wing suffers greatly vs Defenders and Interceptors. I think there's little hope of seeing a buff to the T65 and keeping it a T65.

Every new release brings about change. Those that embrace the change and adapt their play style do well in the game. Those that don't and continue to try and use older builds or less optimal builds won't do as well. Then come the "nerf" threads. If you look at the original poster of those threads, many are new players.

It's also human nature to b***h about something. We all do it. Even if it's to b***h about those that are b****ing.

Actually, we need more oat threads!

Alternatively: we could have more theory crafting threads. Those are _super_ fun.

The Theory of Nerfs: what they are and how to herd them.
