and it's really annoying if you're trying to make a list, especially since it appears to double-space inconsistently. If anyone knows how to circumvent this problem, that would be awesome.

Shift + Enter
Also, for making lists:

This is exactly what I need, especially since it's not as intuitive as using the format bar. Makes me wonder what other little things about forum formatting I don't know...
It looks like you're writing a forum post. Need help?

Shift+enter for line break is not exactly an uncommon command.
Enter is for paragraph breaks.

shift return doesn't work on iPhones so I guess I will have to just deal.
With it.
You know.

I think I got it. Thank you, though. I needed to know all this because I was fixing up my thread about the pricing formula FFG uses (it most definitely exists), and it's quite a long post since I do an analysis on every ship explaining FFG's methodology and deviations from their own formula. The new forum auto-format messed up the entire thread, and now I have to reformat it back to normal.

I'm posting on an internet discussion forum about a star wars miniatures board game.
Of course I'm a nerd.
Far as i know Word was the first program to default to the extra spacing. Ive hated it ever since, and ive slowly seen more and more typing programs/interfaces do it.
Really, really annoying. Least shift + enter works now, it didnt initially
I was unaware of this 'shift-enter' trick.

Same. It's the first thing I change as soon as I start any Word document. Can't stand it.
I should not have to use a modified keystroke for a basic function.
Incidentally, I just found out purely by accident that CTRL+Enter serves as the "Post" button.
Edited by KharnvorI also found out that putting the letter "B" inside a [ ] makes everything after bold, I think. I found this by accident, and I don't know exactly how it works.
I think that's standard BB code [ B ]Text[ /B ]
Except without the spaces between the B and the [ and ]

Thats just standard BB code which all forums use
Theres also quote /quote, u /u, i /i, spoiler /spoiler, or code /code in brackers (the [ and ] symbols).

It's so empowering to own it. Someone sees you enjoying a game or fandom and calls you a nerd and you just kind of blink at them and go, "Yes...?" Takes all the venom out of their attempted insult. They go on fuming about not being able to hurt you because someone in their lives hurt them, and you go on enjoying your nerdy self.

I never knew it was called "BB code," nor that it was standard for all forums. Thank you. Now I have it Googled and bookmarked on the wiki for future use.
