Problems with miniatures...

By Apophis775, in Mansions of Madness

So, as a former W40k player, I take my Miniatures fairly seriously and I was a bit disappointed in these. I have 2 starspawn, and their legs are different distances apart, one of them can't even fit on the platform he's supposed to go on, because the legs don't reach the holes. I have the same problem, with many of the smaller ones. It's at the point that I leave the Miniatures in their box and just use the cardboard icons to mark monsters.

Is there a way to get replacements that have the proper dimensions/fittings? I had been planning to paint them, but I'm not sure it's worth the time in the current state, with us not even using them.

I was especially disappointed, because the Miniatures in X-Com seemed to get so much more love than these.

I'll upload photos later if anyone wants, so you can see what I'm talking about.

This is definitely an area FFG did not invest in, but they are far from terrible. Start by trying the hot water/cold water dip trick to see if you can get them into a better pose. You may not be able fix them easily if they are glued crooked.

If they are really bad, contact FFG.

That's so odd... I had the exact same problem with one of my two Star Spawn. Heating the model up with hot water (and drying it off!) before inserting into the base always works.

As a veteran of 50+ games of Arkham Horror, I would have preferred just using the cardboard tokens. The artwork is far more terrifying than the grey plastic figures.

I do just use the cardboard tokens. My minis haven't even made it on to the table.

Yeah, I use the cardboard tokens right now, but I paint models, so I was looking forward to making them more terrifying.

I had the exact same issue. When I opened the box, the Star Spawn legs would not fit and I had to use heat and glue to bend them into place. I had similar issues with the Deep Ones where I had to bend the plastic, or even one of the investigators (Yorik's skull was broken and loose within the bag, had to glue it together).

I don't think the miniatures are terrible, but compared to other games from FFG (like Descent for example) you can see they invested the money in other parts for this game (I still think MoM is a brilliant game and none of the above has affected my experience).

As others have mentioned use the hot/cold water method for bent minis, but the best decision i made was re-basing the minis(star spawn i just cut off the pegs as they dont need a base)

You can! The models add literally no data or mechanics to the game that the tokens do not, and I haven't used a single monster figure for Mansions of Madness yet. The tokens take up less space in storage, WAY less space on the board, and have great art (much nicer looking than the figures).

Apologies if this isn't the place for this, but are any of you who aren't using your minis interested in selling them?
