Hey everyone,

Im considering getting into Imperial Aasault. Can I get some advise on what I should purchase to play some semi-competitive Squads?

I tend to lean towards Rebel or Scum Characters.

Competitive squads? I'd purchase stuff in this order

Rebels: Jedi Luke, Alliance Rangers, R2D2&C-3PO, Obi-Wan, Leia, Alliance smuggler

Mercenary: Jabba, Bossk, HK droids (from Hoth expansion), Bantha, Greedo, Hired Guns

If ya wanna go scum and relatively competitive get jabba's realm, greedo, jabba, bossk.

6 - Jabba

7 - E Weequay

4 - Greedo

8 - Bossk

8 - E Gamorreans

5 - Vinto

thats 38 points. You could then go with some upgrades like prey on the weak for vinto or bossk. And/Or black market for more card draw/vp gain/milling your draw deck. Even running the indentured jester wouldn't be bad.

Stay on a tighter budget - drop the bossk purchase and sub shyla varad from jabba's realm.

Other figs worth getting to expand your scum army - a bantha for the figure and beast tamer and I believe crush command card is in there but I could be wrong. This figure pack is pretty essential to making the rancor shine too if you're leaning that way.

Hired guns are worth picking up as terminal/objective grabbers and if they ever get a focus they can do some damage/make your opponent not want to kill them as much.

Figures to try and trade for or buy on the black market (eBay) if you don't want to splurge for the expansion they come in - Gideon (core set - you can get by without him since jabba exists but it can be worth it to have more focus - 3P0 isn't bad to have either and both can work even with jabba if you pack enough guys into your list - 3 focus a turn? Sick if you find the right balance) and Hks (Hoth).

Now all that being said, you won't be regional and higher level tourney legal without the core set components (dice, map tiles, etc) which sucks - and hopefully FFG is working on this. And you will be missing out on some really good command cards - a lot of staple 0 cost cards are in the core set for example or heightened reflexes (great hunter card for e weequays/hks/bossk/you get the picture) is in the alliance rangers ally pack or negation is in the hoth expansion. But there are enough cards nowadays that you can still make a command card deck that will work without some of those or you can try and find a command card set from the core set online maybe.

I think that it's now easiest to get into semi competitive skirmish with scum though. And most people at a local game store will help you with maps and such until you're hooked and addicted
