Victoria's Secret...not a bad CR 90 Title. Jijiji
Well, considering their penchant for feathery wings, I can certainly look at her stupidly and say 'Are you an angel?'.
I'm gonna brag a little here, but my wife bought a new Imp Raider for me.
She's so awesome.
That being said, save a little bit at a time and when you have enough get it. Communication is key!
Edited by rubberduckSo this weekend I dropped about $170 on X-Wing with the blessing of my fiance. I got the GR-75 expansion and T-65 expansion to get my first Epic ship as well as all the T-65 X-Wing pilots I was missing. I also have the Imperial Raider paid for and on order with the FLGS.
It took lots of dedication and work ![]()
Normally, I put $20 from every (2-week) paycheck aside for gaming stuff. This builds up over time and has been nice to build up my collection. She sometimes got annoyed with me bringing a ship home every couple weeks, but it was under the agreed budget and she was OK. I had not been getting anything since the X-Mas holiday though, and hadn't been keeping track. To be honest, I got a truckload of X-Wing stuff gifted to me this X-Mas, so I wasn't worried. This is my recommended method. Set a reasonable, fair budget, discussed and agreed upon with your SO, and stick to it. Don't cheat the budget. If you stick to it, they don't really have any fair standing to complain. Everyone needs a hobby.
As far as my recent Epic splurge, my fiance has been going through a really rough pregnancy, and I have been spending most of my free-time supporting and caring for her. This included giving up my FLGS X-Wing nights (I don't think I've gotten a game in in 1-2 months). She was very thankful/lovey for that support and said that I should get myself one of the "big ships" with some of my tax return money as I have been awesome. So we went down together to get the Raider (which she knew was my most wanted), which was out of stock
. So instead, I decided to grab the Rebel Transport and an X-Wing pack, bolster up my Rebel stuff. When we were checking out, she asked if it was available to be ordered, which the owner said yes, so she said to go ahead and get that ordered as well. ![]()

Starships come out of my fun money, and when the fun money runs out, that's it. Is it really that hard? She doesn't complain about my "toys" and I don't complain about her haircuts and pedicures. And then we don't have to lie to each other or fight.
This. We do the same. We buy whatever "pointless junk" we want as long as it is our own money.
Hobby money is something that constantly changes. I go through different games and require different amounts of money at different times. My employment has changed through the years, as well as my paycheck. I've had major unexpected surgeries. Times change and budgets with them. Normally, it's good to have discussions as to what is expected up front from a hobby with the Mrs. I used to get a personal budget that I used every month for whatever I wanted. Those were the glory days, but times have been leaner since then. Now, I know there are only so many expansions per year and I budget for them. Ways that I get cash are:
I'll hoard my wife free hobby money for the big purchases. I use it for X-wing and for any video game purchases. I've actually done better than I thought for the past couple years. Also, wait until things go on sale online. I like to support the local store, but the epics are so much cheaper online.
If you aren't doing tournaments, you can always just proxy the cards until you can afford it.
I am shocked about people selling plasma...45 bucks? Sorry and no offence intended but this is really weird to me. I know this is a common practice in the States but man... Selling your blood. In Spain we simply donate our blood. One or two sandwitches and one pin every x donations.
3 small ships per donation...uauuuhhhh!
Lots of people donate their blood, but from my understanding, plasma is a little different? Or I'm wrong and it's just that most people freely donate their plasma, but it's never enough. There are always more plasma needed than donation drives.
In my country we are fortunate blood and plasma donations are high. Plasma donation requires perhaps 45-60 min as is perhaps more rare and valuable but no money involved. I donate blood but the "simple" and fast way.
About serious medical problem we are covered by a public health sistem. You need surgery, rehab, etc... No extra cost involved. You can choose to be treated by private clinics, but the real serious treaths to your life are usually fixed via public health. Of course far from perfect but no need to worry about the money involved
Surprised about the 45 $ payment. Curious. Off topic, sorry. But I was hit 18 years ago by a drunken driver and positive recovery experience.

Largest advantage of being at a university, so many studies for hobby money! We have lots of psychology studies that go for about 9€ per hour, economics studies where if you are lucky you can go up to 40€ (in about an hour, too) and usability studies for about 8€ per hour, which always are a lot of fun as you get to interact with innovative products.
Oh, there is also Secret Shoppers you can do. Different companies, but you can probably google your area. You can pick up assignments to go to different places to shop a place. Many restaurants do it where they basically pay you for your mean...and maybe $5 extra. Usually require 2 people. There are other ones that ask you to test drive a car and then pay you $15-$30. There are other stores, too. I really should look at them the next time I have a Saturday free as that's one ship for looking at a car.

Technically, I think you get paid more for the first 1-3 of them as they want you to come in. Then, they pay you more around $25. I recall there was a guy at college who did it for booze money. He said he would do it on the day he would drink so that it cost less to get drunk! He did it so much....he got a tax return from the place! In other words, if you make so much money at a place per year, it's considered a form of income that's taxable.

You could say he was making... blood money!
I got my gf into X-Wing. And she's a big SW fan in general. So it's not really a problem.

I have very similar budget. Took time to build up collection, but in 3-4 months you have more than enough to play with.
I decided to get into X-Wing a couple of months ago.... I now own 80% (ish) of the sets.
.. I went a bit nuts. I am also going to Hoth open in Chicago... I live in Hong Kong!
My solution with the boss was for her to have a girl trip to Thailand.
I am now poor... but have a lot of X-Wing and a happy wife
.
Generally though I have been with the missus a long time, but my "little men" were my first love... they were there when we dated, they were there when we got married, they were there when kids came... consistency
, so she cant start complaining about them now (although she tries). When she brings up the cost I will just remind her she wanted kids, and they are waaaaaaay more expensive. ![]()
If you have at least 20+ spaceships, they aren't really able to notice new ones - just unpack them in solitude ![]()
My wife is a passionate X-Wing player, so we often discuss what to buy rather than whether to buy
