Rexlar Brath

By MrPirate89, in X-Wing Squad Lists

I find Rexlar Brath gets no love. His ability can be great and comes on a Defender body. Trying to tweak a list with him but having some trouble.

Rexler Brath + Expertise + Tie D + Ion Cannon (44pts).

Flew that in a list with Carnor Jax and Lt Colzet last night and had two great games. First game flew against Rebel scum, dropped the U wing and two of his xwings before losing to some bad rolls. Second game was a three for all, other opponent was flying a Scum list with some ships I don't recall, and Jan with a bunch of focus tokens. Scum came at me with a large based ship and I swamped it in red dice and when I finally brought it down Rebels brought the U wing my way. Some dodging and fighting before the store called Time (closing). Lost carnor jax and pushed Colzet and Brath into a xwing kill to make the game a little closer. Ended up losing by 10pts.

Any suggestions on what else to fill the list with. Its a casual environment but most of the other players are in a league so they have that edge. Been thinking of Ryad + Tie D + Tractor beam + Decoy and Howlrunner (Ryad switches PS with Brath, tractors target for better positioning then everyone unloads red dice).

Rexler is a peach. His pilot ability is a rare sight to actually trigger super effectively. I tried pairing him with a tomax shuttle with fleet officer to get him extra focus, and it works alright.

He has two pros: the natural PS8, and his ability scares the beejeezus out of opponents, making him a high target priority. For that reason, I'd suggest x7 on rexler. Then, he can be your primary jouster mixed with some other aces.

For some kicks, put swarm leader on him with some cheap TIE filler to feed him evades for the possibility of 6 crits at r1.

Rexler + Juke + X7 + Twin ION for 38 points is what I have been going with lately to great effect. Paired with The Inquisitor + PTL + Title + Autothrusters you have a pair of PS8 aces that can evade for days and put through consistent damage. I added a Delta Sq defender + X7 + Stealth device for a recent tournament and went 4-2. Both losses started with losing Rexler first by using my focus for offense early in the round and then trusting 3 green dice + evade token. Slow and steady, something, something...

I'm going to try out Omega leader and prockets on the Inquisitor instead of the Delta Sq and see how that goes.

So, I have been thinking about this, and I think you wuld be better seved with x7 on Rexler and use a different /D (I would try Vess, he is very efficient as a /D)

Quick spitball:

Rexler Brath (39) - TIE Defender

Expertise (4), TIE/x7 (-2)

Colonel Vessery (37) - TIE Defender

Veteran Instincts (1), Tractor Beam (1), TIE/D (0)

"Omega Ace" (24) - TIE/FO Fighter

Push The Limit (3), Twin Ion Engine Mk. II (1)

With this thought you could use Vess first to help the everyone push damage (ace should have TL,focus with PTL) and to draw target into rng1 or onto rock if possible. Rexler and Ace unload crits!!!

Other options, (2) Tie Academies OR Ion on Vess and Zeta Leader with Wired OR Ion on Vess, Juke on Rexler and keep Omega Ace

I'd simply put x7 and Juke on Rexler, he's already expensive enough. Expertise does free up your focus to defend or use with his ability and is a perfectly viable option. Just don't build around his ability, it's just not going to happen too often and it's not worth it. If you must put D on Rexler, at least get a TB and not an Ion Cannon. Lowering enemy agility at PS8 will help a lot.

There are a few options that come to my mind for Rexler's wingmen:

-2 extra x7/Juke Defenders to taste. Standard and effective list.

-RAC with EU and some good crew, possibly Palp, Hux, Gunner etc (only if you keep Rexler cheap). Hux + Rexler can be pretty nice against high agility opponents if you're not using Expertise.

-Upsilons seem to work pretty well, with or without Palp. I've recently experimented with Stridan for extra token support (Fleet Officer, Systems Officer, Collision Detector) along with OL (standard setup, Juke+Comm Relay). I need to test it in more games before I can reach a conclusion about this one, but it's promising. Again, do this only if you use x7/Juke Rexler.

-Mini TIE swarm, preferably 5 Academies.
