You are wrong. Violence did not stop him. Violence ended his life. Luke stopped him without violence. You are confusing the method of the characters demise for how he the character was actualy stopped. Without turning Vader Luke would have failed. Violence didn't turn Vader. Vader was they key.

And yet violence is not what actually defeated him. You seem to be lost on the narrative point at which Palpatine had been defated and stopped. Palpatine was stopped when Luke turned Vader. Not when Vader killed him.
