Can anyone convince me to fly Strikers at Yavin?

By Smudger13, in X-Wing

I'm really sick of preparing for Yavin. It's been a slog at my FLGS where playtesting has trumped all. My favourite ship is the Striker by far but I haven't had great success with it. I'm prepared to fly multiple strikers at Yavin just for the pure joy of it - one win would make me happy.

Has anyone got any decent ideas for a list featuring more than one Striker? I don't have either Shuttle before you ask. Thanks for your help in advance X Wing community!!

We currently have a game where its not unusual for attacks with 4,5 or 6 dice, often with TL/Focus... I enjoy the Striker, but would keep it home from tournaments currently because of that. That said I have had plenty of fun games with any two of the named Striker pilots coupled with a named Tie/Sf, mostly Backdraft.

I ran this one last Thursday, and it was kind of fun.

  • Duchess with Expertise, Adaptive Ailerons, Lightweight Frame (29)
  • Pure Sabacc with Veteran Instincts, Adaptive Ailerons, Lightweight Frame (25)
  • Scimitar Squadron Pilot with Homing Missiles, Extra Munitions, Long-Range Scanners (23)
  • Scimitar Squadron Pilot with Homing Missiles, Extra Munitions, Long-Range Scanners (23)

Those Bombers and Pure Sabacc were able to sync up and pull off a nasty alpha-strike.

I just went 4-2 at a regional with a list that included Pure Sabacc. They are really fun to fly and I think they are pretty good for the low price tag as long as you know they may not live long. My list had two other top tier targets (Vessery with Tie D and Quickdraw) so sometimes Pure Sabacc lasted until the endgame with his 4 dice primary.

I like the idea of using bombers with the Strikers. Tomax Bren is another guilty pleasure of mine so I may find a way to work him in. The problem will be how squishy all four of those ships are and when I have thrown a Striker into the current meta, I frequently find it can be one-shotted by some of the nasty lists that are floating around.

I feel like they either need to be Sabacc plus a swarm or Sabacc plus 2 other threatening aces in order to be really competitive. Duchess is also pretty good.

Great work! I've seen a few TIE D lists popping up with Sabacc and Quickdraw. I'm currently trying to find a way of working Duchess and Sabacc in with something more threatening but it's a tricky price point

imperial Recruit -, Adaptive Ailerions, Lightweight Frame # 4.

Countdown - Adaptive Ailerions, Hull Upgrade.

I came top 40 with 5 Kihraxz at Yavin last year; that list is much better than 5 Kihraxz.

I can't remember the exact squad that I put together but it was something like this:

Countess Ryad (34)
Juke (2)
TIE/x7 (-2)

Scimitar Squadron Pilot (16)
Fleet Officer (3)
Twin Ion Engine Mk. II (1)
TIE Shuttle (0)

Black Squadron Scout (20)
Wired (1)
Lightweight Frame (2)
Adaptive Ailerons (0)

Black Squadron Scout (20)
Wired (1)
Lightweight Frame (2)
Adaptive Ailerons (0)

Total: 100

I had a lot of fun playing it and when it worked it did well. It does get kind of piped by turrets though.

Loving the ideas. Looking at that TIE shuttle I can see the value of getting actions on the Strikers, do you find it hard to keep up with them though? I've never flown a generic Striker but they look very good value for the points

Duchess

Big O

OL

Big O?

Duchess with VI next to an Upsilon is pretty fantastic. Upsilon can Coordinate you into a boost or barrel roll, and then you can trigger Adaptive Ailerons, and then move, and then reposition again with your action. You can do a seven straight, or you can turn 180 degrees in one turn, no stress required. Hell, you can dial in a straight 1 and end up doing something more like a hard 3 plus a bit; too many options to count.

I like the sound of that... would have to buy an Upsilon though!

Vessery / Tomax Bren / Pure Sabacc is tempting me. What was your set up on Vess and Sabacc if you don't mind me asking or is that a trade secret?? ;)

Alternatively an Imperial Trainee and Sabacc with Bren and a Scimitar bomber. I'd worry about the resilience of that list though.

I ran this and it was fun and pretty good

sabacc +vi+aa+lf

duchess+ pred+aa +lf

major stridan+Ren shuttle+system officer +Hux+Electronic baffle+experimental intface +pattern analyser

I'm taking 5 for one of my Hangar Bay lists at Yavin. Just do that.

This is what I might end up with. Not tempted to fly your 5 in the main event? I also quite like the idea of 4 black squadron with pred but losing that extra firepower might hurt.

Sabaac with VI, LWF, and Title is only 25pts and can really lay on the hurt even at a distance, with the ailerons allowing some weaving to stay safe until the engagement has already begun.

If you got 2 more points ive been putting EU on him. Sounds redundant having 2 "boosts" but its kinda ridiculous how much that 2nd "boost" has been the deal breaker. 25pts is easily added to almost any list (except a Deci focused one as you'd have an odd points left over)

I've only flown 1 Striker once, despite owning 5 since release lol So no, my main event is a tried and tested list that I know I can fly well. Want to get those shield tokens!

Hangar Bay is all about fun and new stuff, as by that point I won't care as much :P

Yeah that's a fair point. Maybe we'll end up facing each other with ten Strikers on the board!!

i own 3 strikers and i can say from experience that once you hit 3 it gets a little hectic to not hit each other all the flippin' time lol. The inability to slowroll w/o PTL to deliberately shut off the title is the big factor.

I dropped the third after noticing the pricing leads to odd lists and didnt really have any issues with 2 bumping into each other trying to go after the same target, either before or after the pass.

Not even the Empire flew Strikers at Yavin.

What did you put with the two? I agree that it can get messy when there are multiple strikers on the table. I tend to spread mine out to avoid bumping

I'm currently training Vess, Tomax and Sabacc squad for regionals and it seems to be decent. Hits hard and dies fast.

In my opinion, TIE Striker is delightful ship to fly. With ailerons you can show some crazy maneuvers. I second the build for Sabacc with VI, LWF and AA. It is cheap and throws 4 red dice at PS8 while still able to evade some hits. Oh, and the model is great!
