Should Swarm Leader be Small ship only?

I kinda like that. Decis do have trouble handling self-stress in my experience, what with the lack of slow greens, but that at least gives you a good payoff for it and it's a good use of Hux.

However...

There is that, plus the fact you have a PS4 Deci without Engine Upgrade and with a huge crosshair on it. Your opponent could just focus it down early and back whatever survives to beat the Barons.

So yes, people will need to learn to fight it, but all that really entails is thinking the match through and correctly determining your target priority. Against some lists you'll want to wipe out the swarm and leave the opponent with a useless EPT; in others you'll want to bring down the Leader and mop up the swarm afterwards.

Yeah, 52 pt Dengar with 360 degree arc and able to pull Evades off from 4 different Sycks for two 5 dice attacks, yeah, sure, that's not a problem. Not requiring arc on the SL is broken. Any and all PWT with an EPT are going to be an issue. Sooooooo many red dice. Btw, Swarm Leader itself is red die power creep at its worst. You can't separate the two. It's the poster child.

360 arc is not a thing.

If you get in Dengar's arc...

Don't shoot him.

It's a 3pt EPT (not exactly like it isn't competing with any other good ones around that price point), rewards good flying by increasing firepower of one ship that 2 to 3 ships have in arc, and does so at the expense of the defense and offensive output of the other 1 or 2 ships. Swarm leader should have been a game function all along. Admittedly I would rather it remove a red dice from the other ships, but that's just personal preference. It currently is an interesting EPT that probably doesn't have enough good use cases to push out the more boring overused one like PTL. Hardly game breaking.

Swarm Leader is one possibility to make 2attack ships with evade viable again. But it's unique, so it doesn't really help.

Just a showerthought: what about dynamic costs? I.e. Swarm Leader costs as much as your primary weapons value, or primary+1? For example, it would be 5pts on Kylo, but only 3pt on Tycho.

That would be a neat way of pricing it actually, and keeping it reasonably balanced.

You can even give one of them 2 focus tokens every turn and still get a TL + Focus'd 5 dice shot every round and clear both stress with a single green (which in turn gives a TL to one of the Barons for double focus, TL, Evade every turn, or a boost if you don't need 2 focus). They're all PS4 so you can Juke before you Swarm (if you make it to PS4 with all those tokens intact).

That looks like fun. What about dropping Systems Officer for Dauntless?

  1. Perform Green move on Oicunn, clear 2 stress
  2. Bump, enemy suffers 1 damage
  3. Trigger Dauntless to target lock
  4. Trigger EI to perform General Hux action
  5. Get 2 stress

That'd be three stress

1 (dauntless) + 1 (hux) + 1 (EI)

Derp, right, forgot that Hux adds stress.

Think of it as fleet officer on steroids (an extra focus and one guy gets an unblockable focused hit)
