New week New Monday maybe New News?

By jek, in Runewars Miniatures Game

Well still unnecessary rage is unnecessary... we still have 4-6 weeks till this game comes out so lets all take a breath...

I feel like we basically know everything about how this game works with just a couple minor rules gaps, so there isn't much for then to tell anymore. I really only get excited when cards are spoiled, so with the unboxing blog I'm pretty much set :)

However I will agree that the lore bit is disappointing to those of us who have been around for a while since the runeage and runewars manuals have had basically that same story for ages and this didn't change much. It actually left out the bit about why waiqar went nuts in the first place so hopefully that's not a retcon.

Also I think it's fine that people express anger or disappointment over certain aspects of the game (even previews) and I think it kinda sucks when people like try to shut them up. It's good for the game when people express their real reactions and opinions and responding with non-arguments only drives people away from the forums and community. I'm fine though with genuine corrections and clarifications like we had in the prices thread though. Personally I'm still hyped, but I think it's fair that not everyone be that way all the time and it's probably a good reality check on the game sometimes. If anything, it just shows how much they wish they were hyped :P. Just my 2 cents.

I'm deep into X-wing, but this article has brought the hype back in full force. I have Rune Age, so this was a familiar story, but it was still good. I'm now trying to scheme how to get $150+ to buy this game, paints, and basing material. It looks so good! By the end of the week, I'll probably be hip-deep in X-wing again, but I'll be back on the hype train with the next article.

So can you tell us why he went nuts, did they cancel his favorite show?

He wanted to assault Llovar Rotuuno, but Timorran warned against it. Waiqar did it anyway and was captured. When he was rescued by Timorran, something had changed. Nobody knows what exactly changed in him, but he was different. As he destroyed the remnants of Llovar's forces, he fell into darkness and lusted after the Orb of the Sky. His next step was the Night of Betrayal.

He was captured and tortured until his mind bent by the Uthuk Y'llan. I also hope that part isn't being retconned but I did appreciate the more in depth description of the undead raising up. If you want to be pedantic you could question why their eyes glow violet when every model was painted with blue eyes...

I find it interesting that they left out a few minor details in their post. Such as that Waiqar's vow was made with the power of the single shard he rested from the grasp of the dead wizard, and that the acolyte didn't turn himself into the crow, Timorran did, using the same shard. And they left out the bit about how the Dragon Wars amplified the power of the Timmoran Shards that the acolyte spread. I know it's minor details, but still I want consistency here.

There is a difference between unnecessary rage and disappointment at a game mechanic or aspect of the fluff... anger and disappointment are different than rage, and rage posts are rarely constructive...

I didn't agree with that particular rage post, but I would disagree that they're not constructive in general. I think genuine reaction is almost always constructive. I would agree that this case of rage was largely unwarranted though.

The rage over the expansion prices may well have contributed to the lowering of the prices. I'm thinking they do read and take opinion's expressed here into account.

When I was a pre-teen/teen (maybe 12-14 years old) I would, in the days leading up to Christmas, wake my younger sister up early and tell her that Santa had come and watch her run down the stairs with excitement only to face crushing disapointment when she realized that Santa had not, in fact, come at all.

It was great fun, but also tremendously evil and now as adults I wonder why there's an absence of trust between us. ;)

But seriously, I understand the disappointment people feel when they get all hyped up and don't get what they want. But you don't make Santa come any faster by crying about it. :P

Trust me I was disappointed about only seeing lore, partially because after hearing about the lore guide I don't want anything spoiled, I'm hoping that they develop an in depth narrative similar to other games. But also because I want to see more expansions, there are like 8 missing FFG product numbers and I'm hoping that we get to find out that these are part of Wave 1 and not just sprinkled out throughout the other quarters. But I wasn't surprised because they has already said this post was coming and as most people have already said there isn't much more of the game system to show in regards to the core set. We will see rules post probably around the time the game ships... Other than that and stuff about the upcoming waves...I think we aren't going to be getting more info about the core boxes, maybe there will be a colors of the different baronies, or possibly a few in studio battle reports...oh and possibly an army building thing but I think that is more likely to come post release...

It's not rage if I agree with the anger. It is rage if I don't agree with the anger.

Just saying. Let's just stop discussing whether or not a post is valid and should have been posted and instead focus on the game. Thanks.

You are getting ahead of yourself I think. I'm not to familiar with the lore but didn't the dragon wars come after the orb shattered? If so they aren't leaving a ything out as this is just Waiqar and the undead's origin story.

Lore is good, Lore is a useful tool in that it help's us pick the army and why we play this army instead of that army, but Lore in the world of Tabletop Games is very important, its the fluff we the player's will spend hours reading up on to understand our favourite Units and Hero's from what ever army you pick to play.

Trust me, am an old Warhammer Vet from the 80's, we want to know the Lore just as people in our world want to know and understand our history.

Am Glad we are getting more snippets of the Lore as I find it just as important to know your game lore as well as the game mechanics.

Dummy question, but is the verb "to what" or to want", because as a foreigner I always thought to want is more or less = to to expect and what is just an adverb/interjection ?

I won't enter the discussion on whether I was considered as a "rage post" author or not, I was clearly disappointed and that's it. And as @Willange remarkably said : I was among those who expressed their deception because I'm, as all of you, awaiting this game a lot. We're all different and if we react like this to such a new, well... at least now there is no point to discuss it any further, no one died ^^ :)

He meant 'want', either a typo or English is not necessarily his first language either.

I still have some of the older WHFB faction books and they are still great reads. The ones with the battle report, like the old High Elves army book, are even better.

I didn't really know anything about Waiqar before today so anything is a plus. All I really know is that I want a model of Waiqar himself based upon that art image.

My English is bad - Thanks for the spell check ;)

And I'm a very annoying guy about language. I make a ton of mistakes on my own and everybody is kind enough to not mention them. I would still like to know when I make a big enough mistake to be "non-english". So don't worry @Torg, I'm the one to blame for being such a killjoy :)

Wait a minute. So this game takes place during the Second Darkness? Weird. Because it sounded like they had told all of the story up to where the game begins, if you read the ending again.

I think it's just background. I don't think that today's article is where the game's setting begins. I imagine the lore guide will go through the dragon wars and end up at the Runewars. It would be cool if it were a sequel to Runewars (boardgame), but my impression now is that it is just a retelling of those adventures. Time will tell.

If it was a sequel to the Runewars boardgame then how could you explain the other factions raising up after my Uthuk Y'llan clearly wiped the table of them? :P

Have you played Runewars? Because Waiqar always wins. Even when I don't play as him! :P

I hope the lore book has a clear map inside so us narrative minded people can work on a campaign.

yeah and clearer maps than the ones included in Descent 2...Oh my god :D
