Action and talent Cards

By Worth2, in WFRP Rules Questions

Hey everyone,

I just got the game and have a quick questions for you all.

1. When a player picks a skill or talent card for his character is that card then not available for other players to get because its no longer in the stack or do players just share the cards? Thanks in advance! :)

Well that's a matter of debate and really a GM call. Technically speaking players are allowed to "share cards" because this is the way that you deal with having more than 3 players with a core set box.

That said, many GM like the fact that cards are limited and force characters to take other options.

In my group I have two cards of everything. I allow duplication once, then they have to choose something else.

Yep, GM call. In the game I am GM'ing for 3 players, I am using the card limitation as a means to help the party have a broader array of options and ensure variety. In the game I am playing in that has 6 players, most of us have our own set, so we all pick freely from all the cards without worrying about duplication, but our character concepts are different enough that this early on, there hasn't been much, if any, duplication anyway.

Thanks everyone!

For some reason this limitation just hit home with me, and frankly it strikes me as crap. Why shouldn't players be able to choose the same action or talent? And why should I have to buy multiple core sets to cater for it? It's just crazy.

Well, in my campaign I've decided to put aside thoughts of switching to V3 until it has material for more advanced characters. Back to V2 it is then. Shame.

To be honest, this limitation hit me WAY before even buying the core set. It's not a big deal for my group. Sure I bought a second core set, but that was because I wanted more of everything.

While I agree that it would be nice to have multiples of all the action cards, I won't let not having them out of the box be a limiting factor. If the characters have good reason to have particular actions, then I don't have a problem with making a copy of a card.

I wouldn't allow multiple characters to have the same action if the Player's only explanation boiled down to min/max-ing or munchkin-ing. I love that the card scarcity is a tool to have a more varied party

I would like to see the action cards and talent cards sold separately as an accessory pack.

Yeah, it just doesn't seem very good design though does it?

I too like the idea that everyone will have something to offer the group. I also think it really cuts down on 'ill take this skill because I don't like how x uses it'.

I do, however, also hope that they will put cards out for sale.

I am a fan of the idea that you can get a copy of card for every 3 players. Also when someone picks an advanced action the basic version will filter back into the skill deck so other can get it. At least I think thats how it work? Thanks again.

I don't think it was ever about game design, as the designers intended you to make copies if you want (otherwise they would have made it very clear that cards were not to be duplicated).

The game limitations were one of a marketing strategy that said "you want more, buy more." Maybe this isn't the most wonderful thing to do to customers but I really see it as much more a marketing decision than a game design issue.
