Miranda/Biggs/Braylen vs TLT Spam

By TitaniumChopstick, in X-Wing

So, the list I've been running is:

Miranda- TLT, Homing, EM, Chopper, LRS (42)

Biggs - R4-D6, Integrated (26)

Braylen- Title, Gunner, R3-A2 (32)

Lately I've been wrecking some defenders with this list, but I'm really bashing my head off the wall trying to figure out how to beat spammed TLTs... If I play well, I usually end up with 2 1/2 TLTs left by the time Biggs drops. Miranda is generally down to half by the time I finish off the 3rd one, and I just cant seem to finish off the last 2 before Miranda dies. Braylen gets stuck with roughly 1 1/2 TLTs and always loses to them in the endgame. What are your strategy tips on how to beat TLTs with this list and/or how would you modify it to still win the defender match? I've considered putting Poe in there instead of Miranda, but he never seems to do very well against defenders in my experience.

Are you moving Miranda into range 1 to get TLT donuts and R1 4 dice primary?

Sometimes I can, if they don't split up and cover each others blind spots. I usually have to SLAM to get close enough though, so no big primary for that round and they usually split up the round after if they weren't already. It is pretty hard to stay range 1 without SLAMming and if I do, I generally lose the damage race due to not being R1 of all of them and Miranda not having a shot.

It depends on the tlt players style, generally if you can range control and engage as few of thier ships as possible after the open you'll be in good shape. In a straight joust hit one with the homing missle, you can likely ps kill it. The next turn of shooting, if they're headed towards you, give up another shield. Id also recommend going rey/guidance chips over em lrs, it'll give you both an early and long game advantage. I haven't played biggs braylen Miranda against tlts, but i do historically not use my stress mechanisms against them in the interest of modding my attacks to burn them down quicker.

Not spamming R3-A2 against them for the sake of attack mods seems like something I'll need to try. The thing about Rey/GC over EM/LRS is that I wouldn't have that second nasty homing missile for the defender match, which I generally need. I'll try it though to see if it works better.

I didn't run em at crossroads and still beat every defender list i saw. The virtually guaranteed 5 hits with chimps/rey is really really nice. I've also found that a good defender pilot will rarely give you the second homing missle.

All of your ships really kinda suck against TLTs, which definitely makes it a tricky matchup. Basically the only way I see it working out is if the TLT player is a newbie; any experienced opponent will grind down these guys pretty quick. Obviously range control is crucial, but it requires a lot of patience; you can't just throw down three-straights each round. If you manage to jump to Range 1, you're pretty well set, honestly; your ships will do more than the Y-Wings will. But even then, your next round is a tricky one because you have to K-turn . . . .

Honestly, I'd just swap Miranda for Corran (VI+FCS+R2-D2). FCS makes him hit way harder than Poe could, and he's decent against TLTs in general; but that's more due to his mobility than anything else. One or two Y-Wings can still burn Corran down; you have to be able to donut-hole them (but then again, the same is true of Poe). More importantly, a Range 1 double tap is still vicious against Defenders; the net result is that you're not quite as good against Defenders, but you're much better against TLTs.

youre sorta running a poke list against a better poke list.

All your damage is in 2 3die ships. TLT spam needs to have 1-2 of them removed ASAP or you are in trouble.

Even though stress isnt that great unless you can abuse it (and tlts dont care) youre probably best to get rid of Miranda. With the points you have on Braylen you cant really swap him out for any heavy hitters, but Miranda could be swapped for a Poe build or Norra. Both would not only have some innate defense to TLTs via regen but would have a much heavier attack than a lone TLT would.
