The "Exile" Keyword

By iGniGhted, in Arkham Horror: The Card Game

personally, i think these two cards that have been spoiled are knockouts! they are well themed and both have incredibly strong effects. Still the idea of spending 1 exp on card like flare, with a 1 time use, although incredibly powerful are costly.

now, i'm unsure, but are you supposed to pay the 1 exp for the card, exile it from your deck, then pay 1 exp to replace it with a level 0, or 2 exp to pay for another copy of the same card. it's not an exchange of cards, so i doubt it costs an XP.

my question, how do you all feel about the mechanic? Is it something that's going to help you out of a tough spot one time, and worth putting in, or is it a gamble that you may not want to spend on and just go the more traditional and solid route of a well rounded deck?

i love the the fact we can have these in dept discussions about the game.

I have been finding that I run out of experience that I want to spend things on anyways rather fast. Even in the new campaing, after the first two scenarios, my characters don't want anything else in their decks. I am already spent on what I would like to introduce to them.

Of course, new cards are going to come out in the new packs to spend XP on, but that might not bring stuff I want in the decks either. So, I don't mind the idea of spending xp on one use elements. You probably won't be doing it upfront, but there are still 6 or so adventures ahead and even if you don't run out of things to spend on as fast as I have, it will happen in a short period of time. Unless of course, your deck wasn't that optimized to begin with and you find yourself substituting things out.

As far as your question for the replacement after using it, the 'new rules' segment in the Dunwhich campaign guide spell that out.

If exiling 1 or more cards would reduce your deck below your investigator’s deck size, when purchasing cards between scenarios, you must purchase cards so that a legal deck size is maintained (when purchasing cards in this manner, you may purchase level 0 cards for 0 experience cost until a legal deck size is reached).

If you wanted the card back in you have to pay for it, otherwise you can get a level 0 back in for free basically.

During campaign play, a card that has been exiled must be purchased again with experience points (between scenarios) if you wish to re-include it in your deck

They're ok. It doesn't fit my playstyle though. Never been a fan of consumables. I don't see myself paying precious XP for something temporary.

Alas, in Arkham Files games, your whole character is consumable...

Cthulhu eats 1d6 Investigators per round.
