San Antonio Regional is supposed to be streaming today

By Audio Weasel, in Star Wars: Armada

www.twitch.tv/geekoutsa and also on the Geek Out SA youtube channel. I heard the stream is going to start at 10 Central time.

28 ready to go. Still finishing up final set up.

Good luck to all you cats in San Antone!

As it happens, I'm at the top table against a Rieekan Yavaris bombers list.

Come watch me choke.

Link?

Nice game, Ard. Best of luck to everyone to everyone playing there today!

Ard with a 10. 2 other 10s. I picked up a solid 8. Justin to me. "That's a pretty close game and low score for you"

So I wanted to ask: What's a bye? I keep on hearing people mention it but I have no idea what it is. . .

A bye occurs when there is an odd number of players. 1 person won't have an opponent and will get the equivalent of an auto-win. As a non tournament player, I forget if you get credit for it as a 7-4 or an 8-3 though.

Ah I see. Thanks! So how often does this happen? If a person gets an auto-win and advances into the next round isn't there still an odd number of players?

8-3 with a 140 MOV for a bye

Yup. From the second round on the poor shmuck at the bottom gets the bye.

So he has a guaranteed path to the top? The thing that confuses me is that at some point there'd be 3 players, no? So what's the point of letting him past?

Generally, its not to the top. Its to the middle of the pack.

It goes to a Random first round.

But then it goes to the person on the bottom... So they get mixed into the middle again, and the new lowest person gets a bye.

Its also a low MOV addition, rather than a full-win sort of thing.

So its basically just "Sorry there wasn't enough people - here's enough to have a chance, without being auto to the top."

Ah. Thanks for the explanation.

Armada tournements are not knockout.

They are swiss. Everyone plays every round, except sometimes there is a top two cut for the last round

I thought the final round was win or lose, points didn't matter? What's a knockout then? And do you mean that the guy would get an automatic pass to the second to last round, then the top two of the round (out of however many) were moved into the final, ensuring no 3 person rounds?

That's only in the event of a cut. If there's no cut, then it goes by victory points, then MOV tiebreaker, then Strength of Schedule tiebreaker.

What's are those? Sorry for all the Qs. . . I might as well go read the tournament rules, huh?

A cut is when, after a certain number of rounds, the top 2 (or even 4) players play elimination games. Score doesn't matter anymore, you just need to win the match.

Thanks, once again, to all who have taken the time to explain these things!
