Rey in her Falcon

By Mcpolle, in X-Wing

Hi guys, and gals.

I put the new Falcon on the table ysterday, I stole a build from the winner in the Polish Regionals, that had Rey with Expertise, with Finn and Kanan, and snuggling comp, with an Inertial dampners, flew her along with Norra, her normal R2 d" build, and played against a Paratanni player, thought might as well run her out against one of the best meta builds out there, to see how she went.

We played twice, I lost both games, on the last shot of the game, as they both went to time, so was qiuite happy, as I have not flown the Falcon much at all, the three sloop, and Finn worked surprisingly well, I do not know if the Polish guy who won, is here on the forums, but if he is, I would love to hear his thoughts from his experience with the list.

Also, would love to hear from others to see what you think, does she need an Engine upgrade?? What else have you flown her with, etc, etc.

Thoughts?? Is she Regional playable, obviously, you might say as she has won one.... But still ,thoughts please.

I would post the list.

I have flown Rey without Experience and basically every round you focus to make her hit harder. With Experience you now have the option to save that token for defenses, target lock (for out of arc shots) or use other cards like engine upgrade or black market slicers tools. You do loose VI but it seams like a fare trade.

I played several Rey builds leading up to the north Texas regional. I am by no means a top player so this may not help, but my record was was around 20 wins and around 20 losses. I ended up taking something else last minute which I now regret since I did not have enough experience with the new list.

The list that the Polish guy played and won with was.

Rey

Expertise, Finn, Kanan, Smuggling comp, and ID

Norra

R2D2, PTL, C3PO, Vectored Thrusters.

I like the snuggling compartment better than the smuggling compartment

I think the build is better accompanied by a TLT Miranda (same Rey build).

Why is that??

In most of the games I've played Rey dies eventually. I find Miranda to be a better end game ship relative to Nora. I also think Miranda does a better job of hitting the hard targets with TLT than Nora can do unless you PTL to get a bunch of actions which isn't always possible in the late game.

TLTs can struggle against high agility aces. Anyone with Autothrusters has little to fear from Miranda, even if they might struggle to actually kill her in return.

Not saying you shouldn't take Miranda, just that it means you need to prioritise what you point Rey at so that Miranda is not left facing opponents she has little chance against.

I've found the opposite. Miranda tends to die quicker than Norra and puts out less damage.

I've won a couple of games with Miranda/Rey after being left with Miranda v. Nora on the table. Miranda is a better late game ship and having an initiative bid (easier with Miranda) can win you games!

I prefer VI and have had lots of success with it. The ability to move last can be huge for keeping her in arc. Being able to move last and decide if you want to flip or not after a 3 bank, and then be able to boost means you can be very very reactive. Not having that expertise-focus means you will pack less of a punch but it means you will last longer as you are not getting shot as much. Also, expertise can be ruined if your opponent has a stress giving mechanic. Also, VI is 3 points cheaper which lets you beef up your companion or save for initiative bid.
