Maryland Regional is Going to be Insane

I think anyone who wants to make a stink about this is being selfish and unsympathetic to the people who work there and the people who are traveling 3+ hours to get there (I personally know of at least 6-8 that making the trip). 4 games is a good enough distribution of games that one bad game wont knock you out. Looking forward to seeing everyone there.

Completely agree. I just offered the idea as a way to have their cake and eat it too.

I would like to point out to anyone shut out of Maryland, that Pittsburgh has room for 200 people and never pre-sells their slots.

If for some reason we get 200 people I will consider it a good day(s) even if I am not playing.

Yeah, I think 4 is a PLENTY. Should be a good time. We are bringing 5 from RDU area and might end up staying 2 nights even at 4 rounds.

And Primanti Bros sandwiches. I was absolutely pumped when they opened a branch here in Dickson City.

But yes, 200 people would be madness. Of the greatest levels. My only goal then would be cracking top 64 for a promo card.

Really looking forward to it - I'll be up Friday night and staying in the area until Sunday if anybody wants to meet up before/after the event. 4 rounds will hopefully mean the players and staff aren't completely dead by the end - I think this is a good call by the TO. Mutiny Pirate Bar is about 10 mins away from the venue and should be open till midnight...seems thematic enough for anyone who enjoys a good greeblehauling.

I know I'll need a drink after spending the whole day at the bottom tables.

One of these days I'll make it up that way...

I'm going both ways with this. I get 5 rounds would be insane for everyone involved if not properly planned. I understand their decision to cut it to 4. 5+ months of planning was available though. This was not a last minute thing. Tournament hosts should plan accordingly to conduct the tournament within the rules and standards laid out by ordering and accepting the regional kit. Essentially banking on 5 rounds worth of players but only offering 4 rounds of support. I love 5 rounds tournaments myself. That's my counter viewpoint. I'm still excited to attend and I'm glad G&S was willing to host a regional.

I mean, it is possible they either didn't notice what the cut-off was for 5 rounds, or what the ramifications for 5 rounds would be. In all honesty, I expect there will probably be enough no-shows to be 4 rounds naturally anyway,

Are their pre-registrations prepaid? Ours were and we still ended up with 2 or 3 no-shows.

Capping registration without prepayment is a recipe for anemic attendance. The DFW Regionals host store learned that lesson last year when 4-5 guys from Houston were told not to drive out because the event was full, and then the tourney ended up with like a 50% no-show rate.

I believe they are. I definitely prepaid, just not sure if it is mandatory. I am pretty sure it is, though. But even when Raleigh was prepaid, we still had like 2-3 not show up, and that was for a low 20-something attendance.

I'm definitely going to see how my week goes. If I'm not needed on Saturday, maybe I'll make the trip down. If nothing else, just to witness that many Armada players going.

Pretty sure it is indeed pre-paid. Only way I saw to pre-reg was via the PayPal link.

Today's the day. Good luck, everyone!

Truthiness to finish outside top 2

Nothing personal, just Garm...

EDIT: WTF, a 10-1 round 1 win. Must have got lucky on the draw :D 1-10 from here on out!

When you're good like me that, sometimes you win despite commander.

Whilst true. Its Garm....

I've gone and had a look at his list. Its a strong list, and one of the ones that doesnt have a clear commander choice. Rieekan would have been my choice, he has taken Garm for the flexibility.

Yeah. I'm cool with Garm. Just kidding around in the thread. :)

garm does feel a bit like no mans land. I'm never too happy with my garm lists and find myself looking at Dodonna or rieekan often.

I bet my entire Imperial fleet he finishes top half.

Seems fair, I only have 2 imp ships. :D

He just went 10-1 again...

Two tensmeans he takes top 4.

Things are looking bad for your imp fleet Gink.....Never bet against the Truthiness. He thrives like you off of the counter-meta (aka liking things that are "bad").

Man... I had some family responsibilities to tend to, but I wish I was there. 45 of 50... ****.:lol:

Man, love that list, except...

He took a Liberty with no pew-pew upgrades? Seems like kind of wasted potential...

Edit: No idea what I'd cut, though, in fairness--that is a lean list. Very nice.
