Poe Miranda load out

By Mrk1984, in X-Wing Squad Lists

I know the popular version is to use Corran with Miranda, but Poe fits my style a little better. So I've been running this list recently, but only choosing between either Ion Bombs (more control) or Thermals (damage potential), while maitainining a 2 or 3 point initiative bid to keep Poe moving after other PS9 aces.

T-70 X-Wing: •Poe Dameron (HotR) (45)
Autothrusters (2)
•Black One (1)
Push the Limit (3)
•R2-D2 (4)
Pattern Analyzer (2)

K-Wing: •Miranda Doni (55)
Advanced SLAM (2)
Conner Net (4)
Thermal Detonators (3)
•Sabine Wren (2)
Homing Missiles (5)
Extra Munitions (2)
Twin Laser Turret (6)
Ion Bombs (2)

Total: 100/100

Is this too much to put on Miranda knowing there will be games I won't have the opportunity to use it all? I know initiative is all meta dependant, but is it more helpful to have Poe move after a Fenn or Dengar than to be able to drop bombs or influence movements? I could exchange Thermals for a Seismic, but I don't think a 1 point bid is too helpful (or is it?)

If you have both bombs and Conner Nets, then Miranda has an answer no matter what PS or initiative you're up against.

I would lose the Thermal Detonators. An intiative bid is worth it for Poe to shed target locks from other PS9's.

Solid advice. Fenn is often seen in lists that come in at a solid 100 points (e.g. Parattani) so a small bid will go a long way. Dengaroo is tougher as that tends to run with a significant init bid but there is not much you can do about that. Looks a fun and solid list.

I ran this at a recent regional (minus the Thermal Detonators). Went 3-3 overall, won the first 3 games and then missed out on game 4 when a Scyk survived on 1 hull and then played the last two games poorly. Definitely take an initiative bid for Poe, it would be highly unlikely you'll need any more than 4 mines/bombs in total during a game, it's very rare that I've managed to drop all my ordnance.

What was your approach? I've tried Miranda/Corran and I'm terrible at it, I get Corran killed entirely too quickly. I'm pretty good at Rey/Poe, though. I have plenty of different pilots I fly with Rey, but I'd like to find other ways to fly Poe.

You have to be really cagey, and be prepared to run even if it means getting no shots. Ideally you want to tempt your opponent into chasing one of the two, so the other can attack unopposed. If you go in all aggressive you will almost certainly lose one ship and then it's going to be difficult.

My problem with a Miranda/single ace list is I feel like I'm on the run from the very beginning. I end up trying to run away, hoping for bombings on those in pursuit, but get cut off once I (somewhat) commit to a direction. I feel like I should either get more aggressive with my bombing (straight at target, SLAM to bomb) or, hell. I don't know. Knowing when not to SLAM and when not to is key, and I'm having a lot of problems with that.

This list is definitely one you have to be patient with and pick your battles. It took me a few games to figure it out. If you are too aggressive with either ship (or both) one will die quickly. Both ships are great 1v1 or even 1v2, depending on the ships. Slamming out of an arc is often better than trying to get a shot to regen with Miranda. I find it isn't a good idea to go head to head with her unless you will only face one shot and you have plenty of health, but don't put yourself in a position the next round where you have all the guns on you. Try to flank as much as possible and pass over them to drop a bomb. The bombs will often cover you from a pursuit and a slam can get you out of most ranges. I just need to figure out how to deal with 3 or 4 TLTs, Miranda doesn't like it, but Poe can only last so long against them.

That's because you are a lot of the time. ;) SLAM is one of those things where you just have to practice a lot and you eventually get a feel for when you should and shouldn't, and go for it when you spot an opportunity. I tend to set Miranda up towards the center of the board and go into a lane in the rocks where I can escape in multiple directions. Then I'll go slow for the first round or two to see where my opponent might be committing to, and then use SLAM to sprint through the rocks and get a decent position.

Hmm...interesting. I've been setting her up in one of the corners, usually at an angle so she can pick a side to fly down depending on where the opponent has set up. I might have to try the middle and see if I like that better.

If you're going to fly the middle, just make sure you have multiple escape lanes. A predictable Miranda is a dead Miranda.
