The Volt Cobra

By AceSolo5, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

Does anybody have an idea what model of ship Sana Starros' (Solo) Volt Cobra is?

Cheers :)

I'm fairly certain it was never given a model name in the comics, but I think it's fair to say it's a Corellian Engineering Corp ship, likely in the YT line. Given how much it looks like a YT-1300 I'd call it something like a YT-1350 or 1400. Although honestly it might be a completely custom build that just borrowed the back end of a 1300.

It's definitely a Sil 3-4 ship with two twin laser turrets. The round things on the end look like they could be booster thrusters or an oversized projectile launcher. I'd call it a custom build too.

Yeah I had to look this ship up (I never read any of the comics) but based on the images I'm finding on Google, that looks like a small freighter. (Certainly dwarfed by a YT-1300).

I'm thinking this ship is a Sil 3 size (four maybe, but that would be a stretch).

Otherwise, I don't know anything else about this ship. I'd buy that it's one of Corellian's less popular stock models.

I was think some kind of YT variant myself... Was maybe thinking of it as an earlier model than the 1300.

I want to use it for a character I'll be playing in an upcoming game that a friend is running... Which will be nice as I've been GMing a campaign for the last 14 months & have therefore never played as PC in this system! My plan is for it to be old & beaten up which will give my character plenty of incentive to make improvements!

There's a front on view of a ship that looks similar in 2P51's Ship Art thread... If only I could remember which page it was on I'd post the link

Okay, (because I have my EotE rules and I've been pouring over ship stats lately). If I were the GM here's my suggestion for ship stats for the Volt.

YT-950C

Sil: 4 Speed: 4 Handling: 0

Def 1 : -- : -- : 1

Armor: 3 HT:18 SS:12

Mfg: CEC

Hyperdrive: Class 2, Backup 12

Navcomp: Yes

Sensors: Short

Crew: 1, Passengers 4 (???? could use some help on this stat).

EC: 65

Consumables: 1 month.

Cost: Cr65,000

Customization HP: 2

As for weapons, it looks like this ship has two turret mounts. (One port & one starboard, and both have 360 degree firing arcs).

So that's my opinion.

See, from the impression I got from the comic, I thought it was a later model or a custom build. When I looked at some of the models between the 1300 and the 2300, I can definitely see how it would fit in there.

Lore wise, it was suppose to be faster than the MF, which means that it needs to either have more HPs than a YT-1300 or similar HP and a higher base speed. I would agree that Sil 3 sounds about right, as the MF is definitely bigger than it, although I guess it could just be a smaller Sil 4.

YT-1760 looks about right, plus it's official.

(there also lots of deck plans, etc... just call it a modified, or upgraded version. the stats are just about right, in my book)

Many thanks for the suggestions guys :)

I'm liking Mark Caliber's stats altho I'd probably go for a Sil 3 as it looks smaller than the YT 1300, and maybe add an extra HP just for the opportunity to make some improvements.

Gonna check out the 1760's stats as well just to see how that would work.

I wouldn't necessarily take Sana's boasting about her ship as being statistically significant, in the context of the game. Faster than the Falcon? Perhaps (Han would probably argue this point). Enough faster to modify stats, rather than handle in the narrative? I doubt it.

Well, she's definitely not a YT-1760.

I could see using a Sil 3 for this ship too. It's going to be a bit bulker and bigger than most of the heavy fighters in the SWRPG, but it's not too far off.

The Volt is also about a quarter of the volume of the YT-1300 (per one of the pictures from the comics where both ships are in frame next to each other).

Glad I could help out with this topic.

It does look a bit like a CEC. Consider, according to Enter the Unknown, the YT-1000 was the first Corellian to have the distinctive saucer-shaped hull, mentioned at being an improvement over the YT-450a and YT-700. It could be a heavily modified example of one of those.

Of course, that's all speculation, as all of those ships and descriptions predate this comic by a long time, and the ship may turn out to be something completely unrelated.

Also, it should be said that any example of a smuggler's ship in Star Wars is going to be a heavily modified version.

Sil 3 seems a bit small, how much bigger is it than a TIE as those are Sil 3?

TIES are on the small end of Sil 3 but the Volt Cobra seems to be more the size of a HWK-290, which is Sil 3.
