Imp Veterans Mission - why do rebels have an obvious advantage and nothing in the mission makes up for it for imperials?

By Zura, in X-Wing

So, this mission has the same win conditions for both sides. + 60 pts per squad. Gameplay is symetrical, drop the never-ending special bombs on the astreoids from your special ship.

For rebels, it's PS6 tie defender with x7 title. - 32 points

For imps, it's PS5 bomber with clusters and 3pt bomb. - 25 points

32 points vs 25 points. Shouldn't bomber be tomax bren or something? Or am i missing something?

The only thing I can think of is that Imperials have a lot of really good double-ace combos in 60 pts of "leftovers". Rebels, however, have a Ghost, light Falcon or Corran an a Z-95. 60 points is very awkward for rebels, so perhaps the designers accommodated for this by giving them a better special ship.

Lothal Rebel+Biggs is good enough in my opinion. Strange reasoning from mission designer i guess.

Why would you take Biggs on a mission where 30+ of your points respawns upon death? The less you're protecting with Biggs, the less he's doing.

Additionally, you're not really thinking hard enough when you say "nothing in the mission makes up for it"

Imperials are flying a TIE Bomber. You know, that thing with 1 speed maneuvers that are really good for fine positioning? Those things that Defenders don't have? The actual mission objective is WAY easier for the Imperial player, because, as fate would have it, TIE Bombers are better at dropping bombs than Defenders. In addition to the fact that Imperials have SO MANY fantastic options around the 30 point mark that Rebels just don't. Lothal+Biggs isn't a great idea because you're getting no PS, maneuverability, defensive, or offensive advantage for those 60 points, let alone that fact that Biggs covering the Defender doesn't mean anything anyways. Imperials could just as easily pull out Inquisitor/Soontir + Omega Leader and just clean house.

It's the same deal as in Escalation tournaments; Rebels struggle hard during the round of 60 because their entire faction identity revolves around synergy, which, and this should surprise nobody, SYNERGY COSTS MORE THAN SELF-SUFFICIENCY.

I don't really get the point about 1-speed maneuvers and repositioning. Bomber has 1 bank and 1 straight + barrel roll and defender has 1 bank and red turn +barrel roll. I dunno how often 1 straight is useful for bombing purpose, but i don't think it's something that really matters. What really makes bomber better at bombing except the name?

But i kind of agree about option problem right now in 60 points. But one day options will appear i think. And will break missions such as this one.

And no need to get so mad, it's just a discussion.

I'm not mad; I just have a resting sarcasm face. I don't know how to speak in a way that isn't inherently sarcastic.

I have a problem.

Help.

Here's a thought, so let's say the bomber starts the round on a relay and does a 5k, he now just needs to go one straight and drop the bomb to guarantee the relay is destroyed

now a defender, same scenario, on a relay, does a 4-k, even if they drop the bomb that round, it isn't gonna land on the relay

More importantly, why is there no mission in the Upsylon shuttle!?
