Anyone Playing/Played an "Evil" Campaign?

By Farseerixirvost, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

Just curious if anyone has played EoTE (or any of the FFG Star Wars systems) in a NON-heroic style - "evil" for lack of a better term. Like played as the Empire crushing Rebel cells, or Bounty Hunter "Murder Hobos" (god, I hate that term, but it works here), or Dark Side / Sith force users and/or "Inquisitor" style 'hunt the jedi down.'

How was the experience? Did it require much work to re-focus in that direction, or does it seem the system is well set up to go either way without "work"? Have any cool adventure hooks or stories you'd like to share?

Am just generally curious and interested in how this game goes from the flip side of the coin. :)

Started all my groups in EotE and every character has to start with an Obligation but I allow F&D or AoR stuff as well.

I have a group that is gearing up towards becoming my first evil group. The group has had a few drop-outs with certain players, whose in-character actions did not mesh well with the rest of the group. The fact that the offending characters were Force Sensitives made the group resent Force Sensitive people. They've all talked about it recently & they told me their intent of becoming Force Sensitive hunters. I asked about their newly acquired Force Sensitive player, the first one that has been fairly cooperative with the others. Their response was that the Force Sensitive will be their "blood hound".

We're coming up to the point of having touched upon each player's obligation at least once. Because there is obviously going to be a bit of a tonal shift in the game from here on out, I will address this when we play on the 24th. Basically, this group is heading towards becoming an "evil" group. The Force Sensitive should expect to drop to the dark side quickly. The group is free to act as evil characters if they so desire, the limitations only applying to no PvP combat & keep things non-explicit.

I will be playing upon the character's histories & their mental states when they begin this descent into darkness, especially considering how their characters had previously been designed to hate evil like the Empire and it seems as thought they are slowly becoming the thing they hate.

I don't think our group is "evil" per se, but it may be too soon to tell.

We're definitely leaning toward being sympathetic to the Empire and we've made a couple of Rebels very very angry at us.

We have two force sensitives, and if the GM were to utilize the morality rules and the conflict points, I think our force sensitives might drift toward the dark side . . .

Yep, I think we might be evil. Let me get back to you on this one though.

We're definitely evil. So far we've blackmailed a governor, started two separate gang wars, bought & sold slaves, attempted to pimp out party members to COMPNOR, killed numerous prisoners, killed several bystanders, tortured one prisoner, and kidnapped a few other people for ransom. We also have one character deliberately driving the path towards the dark side - the others are generally on a range between pragmatism and naivete.

I've played a few other evil campaigns in other systems. It's not terribly hard to come up with hooks and similar - we've all seen plenty of crime movies. In my experience, the key is to make sure the evil players stay as a functional group. A group can survive a psychopath joker, it can't survive a traitor - even if the traitor is a 'good' guy.
