Yeah, 3 days is not something I'm looking forward to. I'm planning to skip at least one of them unless by some miracle I actually do well.
It's a shame.

Is there any detailed info about the tournament structure?
For Euros? This is all we have so far:
The FFG European Continental Championship for Star Wars X-Wing.
This will be a three day event. Day one will be all swiss with a graduated cut to day 2. Day 2 will be more swiss with a cut to the top 16 to be played on day 3. Details will be made available nearer the start date including all side events running over the weekend.
Registration opens from 9am
It sucks that the first day is on the Friday, more than anything. It means long distance travellers really want a third hotel night, and even short distance travellers have to arrive early and work out some way to store luggage for the day.
Hopefully it'll just be two days next time.
Well, for most people it is 2 days... unless there are side events.
FFG OP should really get their act together and publish more info so we can make an informed decision. Soon there will be nowhere to sleep...
Soon? There's been nowhere to sleep for months.
There will be side events for the latter two days I assume, possibly the first day as well. I'd guess at them being patterned the same way as for Yavin - 8-player pod Hangar Bays.
2 hours ago, thespaceinvader said:What's weird is that it didn't cause any issues last year - though that might just have been 'System Open Newy Newness' syndrome.
I also suspect that the extremely packed schedule of tournaments in the first half of this year hasn't helped attendance there - going from Regionals to System Opens to Nationals to Euros to Worlds all in the space of like... 4 months... is crazy.
There's some of that. I believe this year it's more expensive for rooms, you need an extra day for the tournament, and there's definitely a case that a lot of UK players aren't interested in going to Euros but would be more likely to go to an Open. Although Yavin last year was close to 400 players the Regional on the Friday was MUCH smaller (I think not much over 100?) which demonstrates how much harder it is to get people out for three days than just the weekend.
On top of that a lot of UK players I know decided to make Yavin their one big expense this year, and others who are more serious decided to do Yavin & Worlds and skip the Euros. So you've got the UK interest much lower than Yavin last year, and huge financial obstacles to replacing their absence with more European players who hadn't already been serious enough to travel to Yavin last year.

128 at the regional I think. I believe it was at capacity. I played in it. That was my first mistake...

Just double checked against the squad sheets, those are all correct. Eric Zhang MAY have had Chooper on Zeb, but I didn't bother taking a picture of the back of the back of the squad sheet to be sure.

I'm pretty sure John flew triple scouts.
Lothal Open were 270 Players and it was really good - but I have to say that the 3 Hangar bay and side Events were more enjoyable for me personally than the super Showdown mega Event - but good nonetheless.
Edit: Last years lothal at the german comiccon had been ~160 Players.

about 370, I'm still missing Krystof Trojanowski list since I was busy playing

- Biggs Darklighter + R2d2 + Integrated Astromech
- Captain Rex
- Roark Garnett + TLT + Jan Ors
- Thane Kyrell + R3A2 + Jyn Erso + Title
What?! This guy stole my build! (Just kidding)
I run it with R5-P9 on Biggs, and R2-D6/DTF on Thane. But boy is Biggs hard to kill!
Last top 8 was Krzysztof Trojanowski, playing double K-Wings (Miranda with Rey, TLT, Adv. Slam, Clusters and Conners and Warden/Guardian with Sabine, Clusters, Conner, Ion Bombs, Adv. SLAM, TLT)
Edited by costi370?!?!?!?!!?!
Dang that's a lot of X-Wing players let alone a lot of people in general.

3rd biggest X-Wing event ever.

Where was 2nd and 1st? Curious to know how many if you have that information too.
1st was last year Yavin Open, 2nd was this year's Yavin IIRC, each about 400 people.
Only 8 Imperials on that list in the top 40. I'd be curious to know what lists those were as the results sound similar, if slightly better, than Naboo, the two big tourneys since the FAQ.
Will be interesting to see if Imperial players adjust and find things that work.
