Sleeving Question

By EvilAmarant7x, in Arkham Horror Second Edition

For christmas, I got enough of the mini-sleeves to sleeve all of Arkham with leaving some extras to spare. So now I'm looking into sleeving the rest of the cards, but I've got some questions. From the card sizes thread in the reference materials board, the investigator cards are 40.8 x 64 mm and the Ancient One cards are 56.9 x 89.9 mm. The fantasy flight mini american sleeves say they're 41 x 63 mm and the standard american say 56 x 87 mm. By these dimensions, both sleeves are slightly too small to fit the cards, but I know the mini-american sleeves fit quite nicely, so I'm pretty sure I'm not going to have any issues with the other size. 20 packs of sleeves at my FLGS price of 2.70 per pack is $54 before taxes.

The only reason I'm asking about this all is because I've found other sleeves by MayDay that are supposed to fit Arkham as well. Their measurement of the Arkham Horror cards is 57.5 by 88.5 mm, a different size than was reported in the thread, and their sleeves that supposedly fit Arkham are 57.5 x 89 mm, just big enough to fit their measurement. At 2.25 a 100 pack however, I'd only need to buy 10 and in the end spend 22.50 + shipping (unless I convince friends to buy in with me and get enough for discounted rate and free shipping). There's a picture on BGG boardgamegeek.com/image/633108/gawain that shows Arkham Gate Cards in the MayDay sleeves that look like they fit pretty well.

Just considering the price, I'm leaning towards the MayDay sleeves, but I'd love to hear someone's opinion on the matter? Has anyone tried one sleeve vs the other and have any thoughts on sleeve quality or sizing issues or anything else?

The FFG sleeves are a little more expensive, but they are worth it. No matter what game you pick, all the mini-card sleeves will fit for any mini-card. And like-wise for all the other sleeves.

I have sleeved up both of my Talisman and Descent games, and although the sleeves are very slippery when first used, they quickly lose that slip and will form proper decks. The thing that I like the most about the FFG sleeves is that they are all cut to the same height. Unlike other sleeves which can sometimes be too short or too tall for a specific card.

Again, the price you pay for the FFG sleeves is worth it. :)

I also just sleeved all my investigator cards. I purchased FFG, Mayday yellow and Mayday Chimera (slightly larger).

I like the Mayday yellow best but no everyone will. They are very tight. In fact about 2 or 3 per 100 will not fit at all. I put them top side first so that top edge is protected. Then the bottom edge is NOT protected.

Mayday Chimera is really perfect and very thin. However, for my uses the Yellow is better. You can stack a pile of 20-30 cards without them slipping aside. I don't stack my cards however, they are in a small box and sitting up straight. That's why I like the tops protected.

The FFG is twice as thick and twice as expensive. It's also bigger than the Chimera. They don't stack well, but they protect very well.

For fullsize cards I only bought Mayday standard (purple) and Mayday Chimera (slightly larger). The standard does not fit at all. The Chimera is perfect, covering all edges and still leaving them reasonably stackable. I sleeve all the Mythos cards and it added less than inch to the stack. However, again I don't actually stack all those cards, but I pull them from a card box. I have not tried the FFG fullsize.

Well u said mini-american sleeves work perfect for arkham and tailsman. I'm at work so could someone tell me have many sleeves I should I buy to cover both those games. Thanks

That would depend largely on what, if any, expansions you have for each game. There is a sleeving guide in the online store that tells you how many of each FFG sleeve type you need for each of their games and expansions.

i will look into that thanks

I recently sleeved all my small cards, 691 to be exact. This is all the small cards from base + all expansions except KH. Just a rough idea of the task ahead of you gran_risa.gif . KH would add another 100+. Note that I did sleeve absolutely everything, even cards that aren't shuffled or don't need randomizing like Retainers, STL Membership, etc.

Thanks Dam. I do not see the sleeving guide though...any link I could get ?

I don't use FFG sleeves myself, since I'm a cheapo and FFG sleeves come in packets of 50. They are also more expensive than the ones I bought, even though mine came in packets of 100 and are of the same thickness.
