Jonus and Friends?

By Alzer, in Star Wars: Armada

Hey all,

I've been looking at the new CC characters and, taking sadistic glee in dropping accuracies on my opponent, Captain Jonus caught my eye. Has anyone had any experience with him yet? I've been looking to fly him with just a Tempest escort to pick at the edges with a ship-heavy list. Does he need much more support than that? Chiraneu? Intel? Can I just use a bunch of TIEs to engage enemy fighters?

Good question. I havent really seen anyone work out what the "and Friends" actually constitutes yet. I would like to know, as I think could be a really powerful architype which could put Rhymer to shame.

I would have thought he would like the defender and decimators as they can put a hefty dent into a ship before a brace blocking ISD X17 salvo wrecks face.

Jonus is amazing good design. Ugh. Love it. This is really what it feels like to have pieces that require each other to work. Like Sato. Also good design. (Though, nowadays I'm worried if Sato actually provides enough firepower boost to offset his near Akbar cost)

So far, I've been having a ton of fun playing him with GSD2s, some intel and a wide swath of fighters and bombers to avoid getting my investments easily knocked out.

My CC fleet has him. He usually hangs out right by my ships until I can fly him to whatever I want to kill. It's worked decently so far. He's no good vs squads (obviously) so if I can't get a bead on a ship/flotilla, I don't send him far.

I used him with a bunch of escorts. I think it was Zertik, Black, and a regular advanced, plus soontir and a shuttle. I didn't feel I really needed intel as if you just jump him in, his ability works even if he's engaged. Intel or chiraneau would be nice, but I felt it was unnecessary. it worked out pretty well for me. he paired well with arquitens, to turn blank reds in accuracys to stop evades.

Fel has a running mate in the advanced spam! Thats brilliant. Hadnt connected

His friend is a Quad turbo warlord... He doesn't need any other friends.

Dane, Grit only works when engaged by 1 and only 1 squadron, engaged with 2 and he is tied.

I killed a healthy mk2 frigate with a vsdI 2 bombers and jonus. In one activation. No offensive upgrades. Will try Warlord and quad now, maybe expanded launchers :)

I've been dropping him in with a primarily superiority squadron set up (Dengar, Ciena, Valen, and a couple Defenders) and been seeing some success. When paired with a GSD-II Demolisher your opponent *must* kill him or risk not getting to brace before dying.

So I made a list with 4x Arqlights, Blast Doors, Quad Turbolasers and Gozanti Tua ECM, Moff JJ. with Jonus, Tempest, 3x TIE Advanced.

In theory its good, 2 auto accuracy. problem is you want to go second and use jonus to target the ship they activated first since it wont be moving. if they have a lot of throwaway activations you may only get 1 arq to get ca ca ca ca ca combo off.

its also interesting since you add a die with jonus and then you can use enhanced armaments to add another and then CFP and then vader reroll it all including jonus's die (IIRC) this may be his strength.

I'm not talking about grit, you can still change a die to an accuracy while he's engaged. if you drop him in front of a large base ship, even engaged, he can stay in distance 1, giving all your ships a free acc against that ship

you don't add a die, you change one. it works just home one.

Quad laser cannons Add 1 red dice set to the accuracy icon

So you're going for

-Move Jonus near

-Roll 3 reds (we will us an arq)

-Rotate one to an accuracy

-Add one die with an accuracy from QLC

-Add 1 red from CF command

-Reroll any bad results from those 5 reds with Vader spending the Contain

yea there are most likely better ways to achieve this. but you are technically talking 5 red dice with 1 guaranteed accuracy every time

2 if you need them for like cr90s to get rid of evades

It's expensive, but I've seen him (+ another squad) get put on a gozanti with flight commander and Rapid Launch Bays. So basically you activate the gozanti last and drop off the kids right near the ship you want an auto accuracy against next turn, plus you get to shoot at it with Jonus and the other squadron assuming they're not engaged.

I think if you can combine rapid launch bays + initiative + out-activating + flight commander you can really pull some dirty alpha strikes. I've also considered doing this with Sato and an MC80 command cruiser.
