if BBBBZ is still a thing, why isn't XXXXZ?

Is BBBBZ still a thing? I know there are a couple players had success with generics at regionals, but I don't think it was that list.

Saw it made top 8 at a regional last week.

Survivability is the same on average. But the massive health of 4BZ means it will never die quickly due to terrible green dice. You barely throw any. Plus the barrel roll of the B-wing makes it much more effective in a scrum which is the only way the list can win.

The B-wings 2K was amazing before wave 5... before the dark times...

4XZ could be effective but you will lose a ship before it gets to fire more often. Honestly, part of the issue is the expense. Before HotR, you would need to buy four T-70 expansions, 4 X-wings (core, transport, expac whatever), and probably 4 Y-wings for R2 astromech (the only decent 1 pt astromech). 4 B-wings is a bit more likely if folks doubled down on Rebel Aces for sweet, sweet A-wing goodies.

I cut my teeth in tourneys with 4BZ. Life was good until boosting large based ships could swoop in, kill one and then run away until time. TLT's pretty much finished them off. Plasma torpedoes are a B-wings nightmare.

If you fly them well and the dice gods smile upon you, it is possible to win with either list. And they are still a lot more fun to me than many others. Screw it, I'm going to fly one or the other in the XWVL this month.

Yeah the Dark Times, aka I can finally move my ship.:P

Lol Although I don't mind a furball being a thing but only if it is something you can;

  1. create it through positioning and mechanics
  2. skill can break (or keep from breaking) it.

A lot of players don't like the furball because they say it removes the positioning from the game. I think positioning is even more important because once you are in you are locked up. Still I can see the thematic breaking image it puts as several ships are stuck together none of them moving (this isn't 40k after all). The Arc dodgers were too good at avoiding them and picking off the edges to where there was nothing but crumbs. Also you can't really make a furball with a 2 ship list (I mean you can but it is called fortressing).

But back on the B-wings this is the exact match up they excel at. Maybe with tractor beams being a thing they can create this set up easier. And if they all are the same pilot skill the tractor beam token does reduce the agility for all the other attacks.

Still I like the furball aspect of X-wing, as long as it doesn't become EVERY game a furball.

What about a 5 Kihraxz?

Blair Bunke also rocked a pretty crazy low-PS list at the Seattle regional, using a pair of Tracer Bandits alongside another pair of naked Bandits and a couple of Plasma Torp Y-Wings. I wish I'd had the chance to see how he was utilizing it, as it seems like the list would hinge on the Tracers hitting their mark.

Blair is also a low-PS genius, especially on the rebel side.

The fact that you posted this twice makes me wonder if Blair doesn't deserve some Chuck Norris style jokes.

You know how a giraffe came into creation?

Chuck Norris upper-cutted a horse.

I've flown it. It can snowball either way very quickly. The Kihraxz is so close to where it needs to be. I really hope we see some sort of zero point buff so that the 5K list becomes a threat. I think the hyper damage output of today's lists just mean you are all but certain to lose a ship before it gets to fire and then it will continue downhill from there.

Have 2 more Kihraxz's left to paint and then this will hit the table again at least at a local tourney.

An X-wing with R2 Astro and integrated costs the same as a B-wing. Not only that, the survivability is the same. The X-wing has a better K-turn, is faster and more manueverable. Yet consistently I still see BBBBZ out there and making the cut on occasion. Why isn't XXXXZ a thing?

It takes less purchases to run the b wings.

I think the big difference between BBBBZ and XXXXZ is the B-Wing's barrel roll, which makes it a better blocker, a better slow-roller, and better at casting a wide enough net to catch slippery enemy ships.

BBBBZ is strictly better because of the repositioning. Especially now since you can put collision detectors on all of the Bs to not get hurt over debris.

The IA X-Wing's main advantage over the B-Wing is the Kturn. With the IA, the X-Wing is almost as efficient as the B-Wing. However, because the X-Wing lacks reposition abilities, in needs to be more effective than the B-Wing to make up for the lack of repositioning.

That being said, I would still rather fly the 4XZ over the 4BZ because Im more comfortable with the dial; I used to fly Z swarms in the past.

So everyone seems to be on board with the notion that the red 1 turn, and barrel roll as well as the collision detector option make the B-wing better? The all green 1's and 2's as well as the 4K just can't compete for the X-wings? Honestly, I've found the lack of speed to be the big hinderence to the B-wing. Especially with the prevalence of large base ships out there right now, you need to be able to keep firing and B-wings just get hopelessly blocked in the middle of a Melee.

I dunno. I prefer flying the Xwing myself, but I can see why most don't. That one point difference is significant considering what you get with it.
