Am I the only one to feel a bit.... well not deceived but... I don't know. now that I'm able to see more or less what's in the box, I feel spoiled enough to not be so hyped as before...I don't know if you know what I mean...don't worry I do. It's not like I will give up and leave the train now, but somehow, I feel...well i don't know how to put a word on this...never mind !

I feel the same way. It's why I watch unboxing videos of products I'll never buy, but not unboxings of products I'm interested in purchasing. For some reason, though, I don't feel that with this one. Even though I've seen the contents, I still want to get my hands on it. Part of that is the lore guide. I don't want to read any spoilers about that lore guide. I want to sit down with that guide and devour it as soon as I open the box.

I just noticed that the tiles are double sided. Kind of a bummer because I wanted to use a bunch in the same scenario. My decision to buy two cores is being reinforced more all the time :P

All games are just boxes with cardboard and plastic inside. Don't be discouraged by what you see in the unboxing.

To me, the "fun" is driving to work, thinking about whether to use upgrade X or Y, how to counter Z meta list, and scouring the internet for the clues on what is to come. Communities like these, that speculate and complain and fanboy it up are part of the fun. Communities like the tournament scene where you can buy a guy you never met a beer and talk about his army.

In short, this game, like all others, will be made not by the contents of the box but by the community that supports it. So, post on! :)

Oh I am more excited than ever. Especially if the guy is cool and responds to @Elrad with scans of all the cards. Because then we can get some serious theorycraft on! ?

I'm a bit dissapointed that they didn't color code the runes on the unit cards since the rune symbols are so similar looking at that small size.

The rune symbols for the rune golem for his threat is blue runes, and for his charge are red runes. The reds are two sides of two each, so if they both come up he can charge at speed 4, which is pretty **** fast. Even if only one side of two comes up, he can charge at speed 2, same as his normal charge, but at a faster initiative.

@Oloh and the others : right now, I don't know any of you IRL, but if we had to meet someday, I would be more than happy to offer you a beer. Till then, offer you one and drink it for me.

to return to business, you guys are awesome at rising up a downed dude. I feel full of a new energy now, thanks to all :) . I will take a closer look at what we have here and by the way i feel more attracted by the undeads even if the Rune Golem looks awesome...it does appear to move like that old Godzilla in the pre 90th movies, but is cool with his four arms and wield dual weapons... always be attracted by characters wielding two weapons, don't know why... Always have rushed with two weapons in hands in all games possible... but I've fallen a lot too because that cool attitude of wielding a fire axe of Hell and an Ice sword of Haeven causes me to always sacrify the armor and then being OS nearly every time.

I'll go into my own analyses by the next days and weeks and see what to do. I'll certainly by two core sets as it's seems to not be a toss at all (except for two minis but that's not a problem).

Ah can someone confirm me something : the upgrade cards, the tactics cards and so on : can you have multiple copies of each in your hand ? In clear language : When I buy my two core sets will it be benefic for me to have two copies of each upgrade, tactic and so forth decks ? Thanks

Wow, this was some really good intell, it basicly sold me on 2 boxes.
Also I've noticed that the underline beneath the Kari wraithstalker and Ardus Ix'erebus cards seem to indicate a unique upgrade, in the same way the black dot does it in x-wing.

suddenly the heartseeking and reaping blade upgrades seem to make more sense, also since they can only be taken by heroes if you look at the upgrade icon.
With all the current info I've made a list from 2 core sets for waiqar and it's just shy of 200 points.

Waiqar the undying
37 points - Ardus Ix'Erebus
upgrades: Ancient technique 2 points
Reaping Blade 4 points
total = 43 points

32 points - Reanimated archers 4 trays
upgrades: Rank disciple 4 points
shield wall 5 points
Terrifying Heraldry 5 points
total = 46 points

26 points - Reanimates 4 trays
upgrades: metered March 2 points
Terrifying Heraldry 5 points
war crier ??? points
total = 33+ ?? points

26 points - Reanimates 4 trays
upgrades: Trumpets 2 points
bull Pennon 3 points
war crier ??? points
total = 31+ ?? points

27 points - Carrion Lancers
upgrades Rank Discipline 4 points
Master-Crafted weapons 4 points
total = 35 points

Grand total = 188 + ???

It seems pretty good and a fun list. those carrion lancers can hit like a truck....

Almost certainly not.

Any selection of cards other than upgrades will be in decks, like the morale/objective/deployment cards. You use one deck rather than adding them together, and each deck has set contents, like the damage decks from X-wing or Armada.

Glad I'm going with Waiqar out the game with some of these upgrades.

Some initial thoughts over the pictures:

  • Love the dual choice with terrain cards
  • Looks like little change in the dials between the gencon stuff and the final release
  • Lore book!
  • Objective cards are so-so, but are offset by the setup and terrain cards
  • Carrion Lancer with our reanimates! Blight for all!

I wish we saw more to do with the blight mechanic. Hopefully that will come in the command pack.
Reaping blade is pretty strong but it doesn't look like it can go on anything with lots of red die, where it would be it's strongest. I'd love to find a way to put it on oathsworn calvary.
Ardus' Fury turns him into probably the highest damage output model in the game if their is a carrion lancer nearby and the target is blighted. I am really excited to see how he evolves over the course of the game.
Latari Training looks pretty strong for Kari, allowing her to shoot and scoot.
Wraithstep looks like it might allow Kari to flank from where ever her position is(OR MAYBE even cooler would be able to dash *through* the unit to the other side.
War Crier might actually be pretty good depending on meta game factors, but being able to put a immobilize or stun out on choice units when needed seems pretty strong.
Rank discipline is probably worth it.
Bull Pennon turns oathsworn calvary into monsters when they charge. Really good morale effect.
Kari in the spearmen unit does exactly as suspected, and is really good for it, even if theirs nothing to *zap* refreshing equipment with the inspiration token is probably outrageous, and the damage output with a front lie rune golem is probably horrendous.
Good stuff over all, I'm excited.

The ability for bane to remove attack dice isn't enough?!? But yeah, more stuff would always be nice.

Most of these upgrades seem very aggressively costed. Other than perhaps Argus as a unit attachment. He just feels very weak compared to having him run around as a separate unit that gives a boost to your army's upgrades. Heartseeker is very similar but that feels like it wants you really trick out an archer unit to be surrounded by road blocks/reanimates.

Well at least now the red-green colorblind players are on equal footing with the rest of us. The stances are labeled with letters, so they don't miss out there (in fact, they even pointed out in the article that the letter itself is the stance, so the color of the symbol is basically coincidence (which is backwards from how it is normally treated. It seems very intentionally inclusive.

You get so many cool points for mentioning Godzilla! Yeah, I'm liking the Rune Golem. Actually, I like both armies. I can probably only afford 1 core set, but I'd love to buy 2. If I only get 1, it's tough deciding which faction to focus on. I love the Rune Golem and Oathsworn Cavalry, but I'm also usually into poison and debuff mechanics, which is much more Waiqar's style.

As for the rest of y'all and your analyses, I feel left in the dirt. Looks like I've got some homework now!

The double sided terrain is awesome for the future but for now its meh. As @Willange has pointed out it's limiting. Only having 3 terrain choices(2 of them are the same) when your using 3 everytime while good for practice and predictability is bad on replayibility.

@Budgernaut I was actually leaning towards the humans because of that golem. Maybe we'll get some upgrade that lets the Waiqar get "undead" Rune Golems. Not sure how that would work besides blah blah evil runes blah blah, but golems in another list!

Edited by Kubernes

@jek the blog you mentioned did not give any email address, but looking into it I found one, sent an email right now, let's see if He will answer. I asked him for a copy of the rules (only) so I keep everyone up to date asap.

hi folks

i'm rafpark's close friend (the guy who received the box).

he made a quick report to present quickly the game, he made some typo in his text, because he wanted to share very quickly the news (he received the box and less than one day after he post something..)

if you read his blog, all other post are much better (in terms of spelling).

anyway if you have any questions, please tell me, i will ask him, i'm pretty sure that if he have some spare time(he have a job :D), he will share with us.

right now he is writing a text about rules and so on, but he want to do a nice and clear text, so he take his time to post something nice.

cheers and have fun guys :D

Waiqar won't need any Rune Golems when he gets his Barrow Wyrm, Banshee, Wraiths and Bone Horrors. I feel the factions will only become more distinct over time.

Mine too, because I'm such a loser at how to edit this wiki properly without making a mess of it...

I hope he will be able to take a high resolution picture of any of the upgrade cards, morale cards and missions.

I will appreciate very much this information.

Thanks to be the messenger and thanks to him because of those pictures.

How did rafpark get an early copy of the game!?!

:)

Cool that's Awesome! We were hoping that we could get his help on the Wiki page we are working on (once again I use the word WE loosely since my contribution thus far is asking @Elrad to e-mail Rafpak lol) We are trying to get as much information on the game as humanly possible pre-launch. Also in regard to typos or what not I had to google translate the blog so I wasn't even aware of anything wrong that wasn't just googles own bad translation lol!.

Welcome to our little Runewars community by the way!

Welcome on board.

So here's what I was able to read/interpolate from the 2 images of the upgrades from the blog (I could use some help on Shieldwall and anything I may have wrong... I want to get this a correct as possible for the wiki):

Shield Wall (Equipment) - 5
While defending, if you have more [ranks???] than the
attacker you may exhaust this card to increase
your defense by 1 for this attack.

Wraith Step (Feather Crown) - 1
Kari Wraithstalker Only.
Daqan
[Special] If you are engaged with an enemy
unit, pick up and place your unit so it is
touching and aligned with that enemy unit's
back.

Latari Training (Feather Crown) - ???
Kari Wraitstalker Only.
Daqan
[Ranged] surge+: After this attack,
perform a [move] with speed equal to surges spent.
You may not something something a turn (this is probably
like don't turn or charge or hook or something). This
cannot occur more than once per attack.

Front Line Rune Golem
Already known

Support Carrion Lancer (Siege) - 6
Requires Carrion Lancer
3 defense, 3 life
Inf, Waiqar
[Special] Choose 1 unengaged enemy unit at range
1-5 and in line of sight. That unit receives 1
blight token.

Metered March (Horn) - 2
When moving, you may halt your movement at any
point along the movement template.

Trumpets (Horn) - 2
The turn and hook modifiers cannot reduce
your speed.

Ancient Technique (Feather Crown) - 2
Ardus Ix'Erebus Only.
Waiqar
Precise 1

Ardus' Fury (Feather Crown) - 1
Ardus Ix' Erebus Only.
Waiqar
[Melee] Add surge.

Kari Wraithstalker (Champion) - 18
Unique
Requires Kari
3 defense, 2 life
Inf, Daqan
[Melee] Add 1 blue die.
surge+: Choose another enemy unit at range 1-5.
That enemy suffers 2 damage per surge spent.

Ardus Ix'Erebus (Champion) - 23
Unique
Requires Ardus
3 defense, 2 life
Inf, Waiqar
[Melee] Add 1 white die. This attack is
treated as having the surge abilities (both
[melee] and [ranged] of allies at range 1-3).

Bull Pennon (Banner) - 3
Impact 1

Terrifying Heraldry
Already Know

Rank Discipline (Sigil) - 4
Precise 1

Master-Crafted Weapons (Equipment)
Already Know

War Crier (Champion) - ?
Requires ????
[Special] Spend 1 bane[boon?] from your unit to choose
1 enemy unit at range 1-3. That unit receives 1 bane
????? (of your choice??)

Reaping Blade (Amulet) - 4
Unique
[Melee] Die faces with no icons add mortal strike.

Heartseeker (Amulet) - 10
Unique
[Ranged] Ignore line of sight when choosing
a target.

So there are some 'slightly' better pictures of the war crier and shieldwall up now (which were the two I was the least clear on). Let me know if you guys think this is right:

War Crier (Champion) - 5
[Special] Spend 1 bane from your unit to choose
1 enemy unit at range 1-3. That unit receives 1 bane
of that type.

Shield Wall (Equipment) - 5
While defending, if you have more trays than the
attacker you may exhaust this card to increase
your defense by 1 for this attack.

It's also worth noting we still don't know the cost of Latari Training.
