Seems like this would give you another outlet for her ability. Any merit or a waste?

How so?
All secondary weapons (Snap Shot is a secondary weapon by definition) use only the primary firing arc unless stated otherwise. So Kath would only be able to use this out the front, and wouldn't trigger her ability.

He's talking about Imperial Kath not Scum Kath.
My bad. So used to Scum Kath being the only one seen that I've even forgot what imperial Kath does. Just had to look it up.
That is correct that it would give another opportunity to trigger, but why would you use Kath over a Rhymer with Snap Shot, shuttle, and Tactician? It's cheaper and works at range 2, which gives you a much larger area to stress opponents over, and has a guarantee of working if you catch them right.

Because Kath is in a ship with 3 attack, a rear firing arc, and 4 extra shields ? Rhymer is almost a third of your squad and doesn't have anything going for him other than his Snap Shot gimmick.

True. But that being the case, why not use Fett? I honestly can see no reason to not use Fett unless you are wanting the stress component, and if that's what you are going for, Rhymer does it better.
The same could be said about imperial Kath, that she doesn't have anything going for her that another pilot doesn't do better. I think the squad posted by the OP is about the only place I could see where she makes sense. Other than that, it would be better to take Fett of you want a Firespray. If you want 3 attack dice though, a Patrol Leader is 1 point more with 4 extra hull and a turret.

Kath with Snap shot might bring a little something different. Her base is big enough that she'll cut off a lot of 2 and 3 speed maneuver options after engaging at range 2. The threat of Snap Shot and possible stress makes one speed maneuvers in front of her risky.
You're probably right though. Firesprays are kind of in a rough spot right now with what you get for their price.
Edited by WWHSDIf you can shave an extra point, you can add Slave 1, extra munitions, clusters missiles and Guidance chips go Kath. Gives her a real nasty way to double stress someone on the clusters, since she can use chimps to guarantee at least one crit.
