Extracurricular Activity & Duke question (spoilers)

By Ghost Dancer, in Arkham Horror: The Card Game

OK, so finally sat down to play the Dunwich Legacy. I'm playing with Ashcan Pete.

Question 1: From the Humanities Building (bottom left) I used Duke to investigate the Orne Library (currently unexplored). I'm assuming I can do this as its a connecting location and Duke's ability does not say 'explored connecting location'. Is this correct?

Question 2: Before doing the investigate action, I move to the library and reveal it. I then discover it says it requires 2 actions to investigate. I'm assuming this now fails as I only used 1 action to use Duke's ability and I have no more actions left?

1. Yes, you can do this.

2. This is a trickier. If I remember the end result of that whole discussion, you initiate Duke's ability at the original location and pay all costs at that time (the additional action caused by Orne Library is an additional cost). Since costs have been paid already, once you move to Orne Library, you do not have to spend an additional action.

Duke is cool.

Clarification

OK great thanks. Yeah, Duke is cool :)

Now that the FAQ is out, my answer is incorrect, so I thought I should fix it. This exact case is mentioned in the FAQ (1.6 Additional Costs). You have to pay the additional cost at whatever point it becomes necessary. Here, you have to pay the additional action after you move to Orne Library. If Pete has an action left, he can spend it after moving in order to investigate. If he does not have an action left (i.e. using Duke was the last action of his turn), the investigate part fails to resolve.

Yeah I just noticed this in the FAQ as well. Left an update in a thread on BGG where this question had been asked.

All in all I don't mind the change - and even makes thematic sense (just because Duke started outside the library doesn't mean he can ignore the requirements to be quiet once he gets inside).

Yeah, I like this ruling, I think it makes more sense this way. I really like the one regarding weaknesses and elimination. I think they did a nice job with the FAQ.

I agree - some elegant changes and some much needed clarifications.

Great, the ruling makes sense and good to have a definitive answer.
