Delve Too Deep File XVI: The Midnight Masks (Behind the Curtain II)
This is the best Core Set scenario, so I've been looking forward to this post a lot!
I love the alternative cultists idea! And it's a great catch that "From there, the players can either beat up the cultists, or perform another task (discarding cards, spending resources or clues, even evading!) to interrogate them. This provides players with their first opportunity to avoid fighting in favour of something else entirely, something I think was very important to establish early. After all, you don’t ALWAYS have to fight in RPGs, which Arkham Horror is inspired by."
This particular part as well as some other remarks here and there are thoughts I had in my head when playing the scenario, but couldn't verbalize them. Great job.
I also like how the locations in Arkham bring the memories of Arkham Horror. revisiting the same places makes me very nostalgic.
I'm just bit unsure, what do you mean by " The Doom mechanic is first introduced here".

In regards to the similar thoughts you had, you know what they say about great minds, Eruantalon... ![]()
What I mean by the Doom mechanic first being introduced here is exactly that; the Dark Cult set is the first to introduce the concept of doom on monsters. Yes, you do get doom on the Arcane Initiate in Mystic, but this is the first time that players encounter it on enemy cards. Apologies for not making that clearer.
