Some Succes with AAX

By Laziob, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Hi, I have been playing some games with this list with quite success, having not lost any ship on the last game.

Tycho Celchu (33)
A-Wing (26), A-Wing Test Pilot (0), Chardaan Refit (-2), Daredevil (3), Experimental Interface (3), Push the Limit (3)

Jake Farrell (30)
A-Wing (24), Proton Rockets (3), Outmaneuver (3)

Poe Dameron (PS8 Version) (37)
T-70 X-Wing (31), R5-P9 (3), Determination (1), Autothrusters (2)

The thing is, all those games where agains the same build: a Soontir Fel with PTL, Stealth Device and Autothrusters, a TIE Fighter (sometimes Dark Curse, sometimes Mauler Mithel) and a Firespray with Gunner, Heavy Laser Cannon (sometimes Ion Cannon) and dont remember what else.

The game usually goes as follows: I ignore Soontir, go with the A-wings directly to the Firespray, using their mobility to keep out of arc at range 1, and Poe goes or to the Firespray or to the TIE Fighter. And once the game develops, usually only Soontir remains against 2 or 3 of my ships, which makes it easier to bring him down.

What I want to know, is if there is any change that would be good if playing against 3 interceptos for example, or against a Jumpmaster.

Also, any other suggestion is welcome!

Thanks!

Named A-Wings without Autothrusters are dead A-Wings very quickly. Jake without PTL misses out on a huge part of his effectiveness, and having both PTL and Experimental Interface on Tycho is somewhat redundant (you'll never need that many actions). Poe, too, is a little lacking here - Determination will help him out against Kylo Ren and ISYTDS, but that's about it, and for 1pt he'd be better off with Veteran Instincts. R5-P9 seems like a great fit (and it is), but it is completely hard countered by Hotshot Copilot, which is becoming more common, as well as being very vulnerable to stress control (which between Ventress and Braylen Stramm, there's a fair bit of) and bumping, both of which rob him of regeneration.

Here's how I'd revise it:

Poe Dameron (T-70 X-Wing)

-Predator

-R2-D2

-Pattern Analyzer

-Autothrusters

42pts

Jake Farrell (A-Wing)

-'A-Wing Test Pilot'

-Push the Limit

-Veteran Instincts

-Chardaan Refit

-Autothrusters

28pts

Tycho Celchu (A-Wing)

-'A-Wing Test Pilot'

-Push the Limit

-Rage

-Chardaan Refit

-Autothrusters

30pts

100pts

You sacrifice the Proton Rockets from Jake, which is unfortunate as he's the best candidate for them in the game, but gain a lot of efficiency and survivability across all three pilots. Both the A-Wings need Autothrusters - it allows them to more safely engage (by allowing them a 'safe zone' at range 3) and disengage (by rushing to range 3 if they can't get out of arc), as well as protecting them from turrets; without them, TLT's and Dash Rendar will eat them alive, to say nothing of any others. Jake is now PS9, which coupled with his ability and PTL makes for a ship **** near impossible to pin down, while Tycho gets Rage as it's a no-brainer choice for him really; since the maximum red dice he'll be throwing is three, the rerolls from Rage effectively provide him with infinite Target Locks. For your second action (Rage has to be first: remember that you can't PTL into Rage, since it's not on the action bar), you can boost or evade as neccesary.

Poe gets R2-D2, which is the safer option for regeneration since your opponent has a much harder time stopping it. He also gets Predator, so he always has some attack dice modification even if stressed to high heaven, and Pattern Analyzer, ensuring that red moves are not too costly too use.

Can you take a second action with Rage with any pilot? It gives two stress after the Rage action and you cannot perform actions with stress.

Can Tycho perform actions with two stress? His ability says "a stress token". I've always read that to mean a singular stress token not two or more.

His ability reads "you may perform actions even while you have stress tokens", plural, so tycho can smash his console to bits and then just boost into range one out of soontir's arc (then watch as soontir flies away because he's higher ps)

So it does. I was using Aurora as my reference. Looks like a Tycho Typo.

Yeah I know most people put Autothrusters on A-wings. They probably have a point, but since I never played against turrets yet, I havent face the neccesity of using them haha. But when I do, I will porbbaly put them on.

Regarding Poe with Determination, is just because I dont have the VI upgrade haha. But I might proxy it next game. Thanks for the tip though.

Im not familiar with HotShot Copilot. Never seen that card, but again, I will have your advice in mind if I face that card in the future.

Regardin Jake, I will give that build a try. It has been recommended to me before, though not with the VI. Will see if Prockets are woth or not next game. Maybe I will end up going for something in the middle, like PTL, PRockets and VI, or PTL, Outmanuever (which has been working great last games) and Chardaan. We'll see.

For Tycho, my mentioned build has been working fine. It may seem that that may actions are not used, but beileve me, give that build a try, you will see how good it gets out of arc and in range 1 in one whole turn. But what it gets in movement it lacks in damage output. Once I try your build, will give feedback on how it performed.

On Poe, I see also that you gave him more of a punch with Predator and more flexibility with Pattern Analyzer. It seems interesting. Will give feedback too on this.

As a general impression, I think that your advice kinda redistributes the movility (it takes it from Tycho to give some more to Jake) and adds more damage (It takes Prockets, but gives two upgrades for Attack modifiers)

It seems like a lots of fun. Im not too confident in Jake's role on the list since it will be flying a lot, but not doing much damage I think. But anyways its worth the shot, so I will get to you once I played some games with it.

Thanks for taking the time to read this and giving your opinion!
