X-Wing US player rankings

By Timathius, in X-Wing

Hello guys, the rankings have been updated for this week! As data keeps coming in from different regions the top 50 is really spreading out. We have 10 new people who came into the rankings and its very exciting. Marcel edged back in to second place as well. I am looking forward to have enough data to spread the selection to three qualifying events. We are looking at several big tournaments on the horizon. So, someone please win them and de-throne Duncan....

NICE! glad to see this catching on over there.

Does this take into account the brits? or is it just tournaments being entered into the site?

The brits never used T3 as far as I know, and catching on … well T3 is older than X-Wing :)

It is mainly an event calendar for table top games, the site is of german origin which got some european recognition, but not enough to call it the standard system.

France has a solid showing with X-Wing: https://www.tabletopturniere.de/fr/t3_ntr_show.php?gid=108&cid=10

Belgium is already a lot lighter with just about 300 players in the T3 rankings: https://www.tabletopturniere.de/be/t3_ntr_show.php?gid=108&cid=7

Here to page for all listed nations which currently running T3 tournaments: https://www.tabletopturniere.de/eu/t3_ntr.php
Not all of them run X-Wing tournaments with T3. The big 3 to pull data from seem to be germany, france and belgium, with austria and the netherlands being still noteworthy. :)

So are you able to use info on list juggler to factor in - there are a number of UK tournaments on there.

I compile data from all over to ensure that I have data from every tournament. Up to calling stores and asking people that are there to geet me standings. Unfortunately, not everything is posted to list juggler. But, I am trying to stick with the US only for now and add the rest of the world over the summer. Just want to hammer out the kinks with my system before I start adding in bucketloads more data.

sorry I was sort of directing it at seapoc' as he has the European one up - with no UK in it.

Your system has a glitch. Im not on there :P

No Kevin Leintz? I get that you're collecting data from many events but I'd think 2nd at worlds would get you up there.

Yeah I won a 5 person store tourney I'm pretty sure I should be on the list. ?

I fail to understand how "scores" are assigned. Is there weighting associated with the level and size of the tournement?

Yes. As of right now it is the size that really matters, but starting either this week or next I am going to re-weigh tournaments along the following levels

Unfortunately I haven't seen him any other events. The rankings are currently based on a person's top 2 finishes. Soon, it will be going up to 3.

Whoah. This is super cool and I didn't even know it existed until just now.

Party on, dudes.

So player A finishes top 8 at Worlds.

Player B wins a Regional

And Player C finishes 2nd in a local tournement.

What are their scores?

well that will depend on the attendance at the overall event. For example, Marcel's 2nd place from this past weekend was more or less equal to Dan Hars' win. As of right now, Local tournaments I am not accounting for. There are two reasons for this

1) I don't have a list of every local event that is going to occur. I have that for Official OP events from store champs and up. Meaning that I can collect complete data from all events, so there is no favoritism shown to players/regions who report more often.

2) non formal events tend to be casual, there needs to be events where people don't feel any pressure and are free to play funky lists and go against the meta etc.

eventually, i will be further weighting events by WHO was in attendance. I think I have a way figured out to do it reliably and am playing around with it now as well.

Have you considered counting regionals that are X+ players the same, since the ceilings are generally pretty similar. For example, it might not necessarily be harder to win a really large regionals vs a medium sized one.

European one seems a little....lame.

90% of players are either French or German. Hardly enough to call it EUR-wide ;)

So the weighting isnt THAT heavy for large events, for example Marcel got second at 120 man regional and was .3 points less than your regional win at an 80 person event. large events are inherently harder to win with the cut system that is in place, so I do want to keep some weight involved with size. But believe me the equation I use does make it so large events don't completely blow smaller events out of the water.

The game is very alive in Belgium ... But it's a little country (Smaller tournaments = Less points on T3)

Finally was able to get my hands on the tournament Data for the NY regional. So better late than never, here are this weeks rankings! http://nationaltabletopgaming.org/x-wing-rankings

I think it'd be better to make them enter their data into Lists Juggler and use that as a base for your calculations. But I'm probably biased :P

If you only knew how much digging I had to do to get just names from some of these events....

I think the main reason (besides of course lack of knowledge of listjugglar existing) is the Tome software FFG pushes. Since it doesn't store lists, people don't uploaded it to list juggler. But I do mention it when I contact stores. I am going to begin trying to contact TOs ahead of time just to cut down on the chase on Mondays and Tuesdays

This is cool. So are you not counting regionals from 2016 at all?
