Y-Wing bomber?

By Flying Dutchie, in X-Wing Rules Questions

Hi guys,

Thought this would've been addressed but I couldn't find anything on the forums about it.
So, for the past 10-20 years it has been assumed by the fans, and video game producers, that the Y-Wing is a bomber. Now in Rogue One we finally see it throwing some bombs! Two types if I am not mistaking. Proton bombs on the Scariff gate and on Eadu they also drop some sort of explosive I believe. Not sure about the last one since I haven't seen the movie a million times........yet.

Anyhow.....Are there any sort of common used rules by people to accommodate this gap in the rules?

Cheers

There's a Torpedo upgrade which ships in Most Wants called 'Bomb Loadout' which allows Y wings to drop bombs. So, no, there aren't any common house rules, because there are... actual rules.

Its called Bomb Loadout and its with us for ages.

Ah I see! I only have the vanilla Y-Wing expansion, this doesn't have that card.

You'll need a copy of the Scum & Villany 'Most Wanted' pack.

Get Scum and Villany ones. The are way more fun to fly. With little goodwill you can even end with 30ish point Ywing ace.

They have been doing well in tournaments recently. Sabine crew really helps them and two w/ TLTs and 2 point bomb of choice fit perfectly with a fat miranda.

You really should get Most Wanted even if you don't intend to play Scum. The Bomb Loadout and the BTL-A4 title are both quite nice (though I don't know if BTL would be worth it without Unhinged Astromech).

I don't think we actually saw any "bombs" in the classic sense in Star Wars until Episode 2, it would make sense (to me) that "bombs" and "torpedoes" were basically interchangeable in the context of a space battle. (Since there isn't gravity to allow bombs to fall, it can probably be assumed that torpedoes are what's used against capital ships and space stations, while "bomb" bombs are anti-fighter ordnance)

But yes, as has been mentioned there is a Bomb Loadout card for the Y-Wing :P

The bombs we saw in Rogue One were both dropped close enough to a planet (on the surface and at the Scariff gate). The second would "fall" if it goes at a lower orbital velocity, I.E. shot out of the back which is how the bombs work in the X-Wing game.
Torpedo's and rockets would have their own little engine and differ from the bombs that are either dropped down (Eadu surface attack) or launched out of the back (Scariff attack).
I am probably reading in to this way to much (since Star Wars isn't actually known to make a lot of sense when it comes to technical stuff) but they way it works in the game actually makes a lot of sense to me.

It was pretty awesome finally seeing Y-Wings dropping bombs on the big screen.

I would like to see A-Wings get the T-70 treatment in Episode 8 or whatever the 2nd one to Force Awakens will be. Wonder what the future holds for them...
