Welcome to the Mynock Podcast LIV

In today’s episode, we discuss the State of the Game and try to talk Dee down from his wariness of the current Hyper Turbo X-Wing Championship Edition meta-balance. At the time of recording, he wasn’t even aware of Range 1 SEVEN dice attacks with Kylo Ren Swarm Leader. Is X-Wing Miniatures spiraling out of control, or is the dumb Dee-ragon succumbing to Chicken Little syndrome?

NEW BOUNTY

THE "SIDEBURN": An opponent's ship must be destroyed in the activation phase after they've changed their dial as a result of Boshek. (Getting Sideburned). They can be destroyed by either going over an obstacle, flying over mines, hitting a ship with anti-pursuit lasers, etc.

REWARD: Dengar Alt-Art Card! (with minor misprint)

BONUS: If you kill the ship by forcing it to fly off the board using Boshek you'll get a hidden Bonus reward...

Remember! We need proof (preferably video) posted to our Facebook Group that this happened in a STORE KIT or ABOVE tournament.

Dee is 100% right to be wary.

Hey, in response to Dee's point 4, his grumbling last week kind of got me started on the road to this topic I posted about how, y'know, people have different reference pools and stuff. Cody even kind of validates my argument by saying he was stoked for the Phantom from Rebel Assault II (not even Empire At War). Different people recognize different ships, and I bet there are plenty of people who maybe collected decipher cards or played Empire At War or whatever who recognize some of those obscure ships. Hell, while I accept I'm clearly a mutant, I vaguely remembered the K-Wing was a thing from Black Fleet Crisis, which I probably read like, twice ever as a kid.

Also, you guys chuckle about the Quad, but really the "iconic" ships which aren't The Falcon, TIEs or Xs didn't really get a super astonishing amount of screen time in the original trilogy. Quadjumper is pretty short but it's got a design which can be recognized and I think the MOST important aspect as a game is the fact that it can have a distinct and useful mechanical role and game design niche. Theoretically like this forum likes to say, nobody is stopping you from doing "theme nights" and just whipping out some early wave stuff to have fun, Tydirium has a whole podcast about flying casual - but if the game is not expanding and adding in meaningful ways as a game, it's dead. This can be iconic as can be, but if attention is not paid to game design then soon there will be no game. And I don't own enough of it for it to die yet!
