Miskatonic Museum Already Sold Out

By Otakuon, in Arkham Horror: The Card Game

Well, I suppose no surprise really, but the Miskatonic Museum pack is already sold out at all of the usual suspects. Either this pack was printed based on the same projections as the core set, or FFG is seriously under-printing this product line (perhaps to build in scarcity and thus increased hype)? Oh well, will just have to wait until this summer when it come back in stock to continue the campaign.

It's out of stock because it's not in stock yet. The release date is 2/16.

Probably referencing the fact that preorders are sold out. Miniature market and cool stuff allow for a lot of preorders, so the fact that they are sold out of preorders means they might be scarce for a while.

Yes, if Dunwich is any indication, it will go from "Not Yet Released" immediately to "Out of Stock" on the FFG site come release day. Of course, it doesn't help that a lot of people are buying 6 or more copies of each pack. There is a slight chance that on release date, more copies will be available (or distributors will release more stock). Guess it's just wait and see.

That's not actually happening in any significant quantity. This isn't a CCG, people don't overbuy boosters for resale or for Rare-hunting. I'd frankly be shocked if people ever got more than 2 copies of any LCG booster, and even then, one is almost always for a friend in their playgroup. LCG boosters come with a complete playset of cards. There's almost never any need to get more than one copy, unless it has some super great card you absolutely can't live without in multiple decks.

Yeah it's crazy. I was bummed out when I saw CSI out of stock, but someone mentioned MM had some so I pre-ordered it when they had only 4 preorder slots left around midnight last night. A few hours later, all gone. Almost missed my chance again. @_@ I think with my next paycheck I'll preorder the next AP or two just to be safe.

Yet there are people on BGG claiming that they are doing exactly that. One individual said that when MM had 20 left in stock they bought 6 and that is why it went to only 14. Some people even posted that back when they could, they also bought 4 to 6 copies of the core box just so they had extra player cards. Many people are obsessive when it comes to their hobbies.

BTW, what is the general consensus for those of us who miss out on being able to purchase Mythos packs. Do we just skip that scenario in our campaigns and pretend that we won it?

That's what I get for ignoring BGG boards! I never go there, probably for exactly reasons like that. Who needs 6 copies of an LCG expansion!?! That's annoying. I'm obsessive, but I'm also practical. Of course, there was some guy on the SW:Destiny forums complaining that Miniature Market hadn't shipped him his pre-order of something like 37 boxes - which he freely admitted he was going to flip on eBay and not use. That is something that no one is going to take your side for...

As far as skipping it, there are rules to skip scenarios. Just take one of the results from it (the campaign guide should be released online shortly after the pack comes out), and pretend as if you had played it. You won't earn XP from encounter cards, nor earn Story Assets (since you won't have the physical cards, obviously!), but you'll still get resolution XP, trauma, etc. The good news is when Team Covenant couldn't fulfill all their Dunwich orders, the turn-around for a second wave was about 6 weeks, so you might not even have to wait that long, and may get lucky and receive both Miskatonic and Essex County pretty close to one another, and it won't be an issue.

To be honest, I am not really in a rush. I still have to complete the core campaign and the two POD scenarios. Most likely won't even start Dunwich until the entire cycle has been released (as I have done with previous LCGs). This also saves on shipping as I can have them shipped all in one go. So my question was just for the sake of asking in general. I am just more annoyed that the two places I have been watching to order from went from in stock to out of stock in a matter of hours right when I was about to place my pre-order. Also annoyed that because this game appears to be so popular right now, many people are turning to speculation and buying up as much stock as they can just so that they can resell the packs at outrageous prices.

It has been my experience in the past that pre-order are based on a pre-determined allotment from the distributor and that on release day or shortly after, more come into stock when they are re-ordered from the distributor. So we shall see. I know that some Core boxes came back into stock in January so I am hoping that I won't have to wait until after the entire cycle has been released before this one comes back into stock again.

I get all my stuff pretty easily from a local gaming store, but I know not everyone can be so lucky to live close to one.

The person who bought 6 on MM lives in Japan and ordered them for him and his friends to save on shipping. One order, six people. People are still only buying one each.

Just FYI shows available for pre-order on coolstuffinc right now.

It's not only whether you win or lose: it's the decisions you take that have impact on the campaign as a whole. Especially in the case of earlier scenarios, you can have quite a butterfly effect for the end of the campaign. So, getting single packs and playing those as stand alone scenario is perfectly viable; playing the campaign without Miskatonic Museum could be a mess.

In any case, I witnessed this for when I got finally my copies of the core set: my usual LCG pusher had the boxset sold out on pre-order, but 3 weeks after the release that, they restocked the game, proving that there's probably more than we see that is constantly supplied to distributors.

Must of got a pre-order re-order from their distributor (it is Thrusday after all).

My FLGS just informed me that he can't get any copies in as the suppliers sold out before the pre-orders were officially announced. What's annoying is that I could have pre-ordered them online but I want to support my local shop. At least we now know that we have to pre-order before they are available to pre-order, it just seems a bit crazy.

I wouldn't be too surprised if Miniature Market and CoolStuffInc both put up preorders before having official inventory. I think they're both large enough to be guaranteed a certain level of stock is made available to them, barring anything crazy happening (like a cargo ship dropping the crates into the ocean, appeasing Cthulhu with our eldritch games). That's why they allow preorders for these things months in advance. They usually cut the number of preorders short of what they expect, but I've seen several items (this one included) where it comes back for a second round of preorders, likely when they get word of the official amount of stock they can be purchase. It stinks a bit if this buying power they have ends up bullying distributors to sell more to them and then makes the FLGSs suffer with a lack of stock, but sometimes that's the way it goes.

Yeah. I thought Asmodee were making a big thing about supporting local stores and making it harder for websites - doesn't seem like it ATM.
